Custom icons for program files (x86) and windows folder ?..?..?

ok trying to set some icons for the folder on c:... no customize tab within "windows", tried to set a desktop.ini within it to spruce up, no luck there has go to be a way, got program file(x86) icon to work

I have always used a 3rd party software to change these folders icons.

...and two more years plus

You can easily do this from the Recovery Environment or WinPE.

From the command prompt type “notepad”, go to open dialogue and browse to your Windows or Program Files folder.

Note that while there is the Browse button in icon change panel, it doesn’t work in WinRE or WinPE, so prepare your icon path in advance and copy/paste, or type it manually.
