I recently downloaded a video and had stored it in a local disk. When I try to copy this file into a USB or any location my windows copier just hangs and says after a while "The source file cannot be read" - Cyclic Data Redundancy. I figured out that part of the file is stored in bad sector. How do I recover the file.

When I play the video, at particular time it hangs. I close it and after the my hard disk stops continuously blinking the LED I open it again and and seek more than the time it stopped.
For eg: It hanged at 22:23 mins then I would open it again and seek to 22:29 then it would play.

I could not make a copy of this file to any location.

Please help

Thanks in advance.

I tried several software such as Copy Cat and Unstoppable File Copier but none of them seemed to work. I checked for errors and there were none. So I tried the command " CHKDSK /r E: " and my computer's memory was 90% used and took about an hour to recover all the bad sectors. Anyway it solved the problem.

Thanks.

Great

Glad you got it working. Sounds like disk is approaching full. You may need to offload, cleanup get additional disk etc.

But again I am now receiving the same problem in another local disk. Could this be due to over voltage? Cause sources tell me that in the night time voltages raise up to 275V while it should be 220V.

Same Disk?

If it is not the same disk, I would not suspect over voltage. The offending disk should be checked with chkdsk.
