The files have been scanned, I know where the files were delivered from so they are ok.

Problem is they are a .dat fileand the sender tells me Win can open them but Win does'nt seem to want to open these files.

When I right click to open I see that Win does try. The animation is at the back of the box 'save' but nothing is happening. I see files floating at the back of the save box as if it was being saved somewhere but its not.

I click yes to save but it just keeps asking me to save.
My son is saying it could be a video, that maybe correct because it could be imagary from a log-jam in Sarawak from last week.

Tried Media player, installed VLC Media player which opens all files but to no avail.

Thanks, here is my last chance caral :D:D

Double check with the sender to make sure they sent you the right files, and ask if the originals are .dat files.

DAT files are usually very small just a few kb. What size are the files in question? To change the file extension just right click on the file and choose "Rename" just delete dat and type mpg but don't bother unless the file is at least a couple of MB's. A very short video clip is going to be 5mb at least!
Rename one of the files to give a txt extension and attach here on the Forum using the "Manage Attachments" box below and we can look at it for you!

But you go into file properties, then uncheck the box that says hide known file extensions.
then do as mitchell65 said

Hi and m,any thanks evryone,

The file size on one of them is 64.6KB. The other is 134KB

I can't really ask again for the files, he is a Professer and really busy, he already answered me twice. I went to where our list is because all communications are listed in date order.

This is where I really get P***ed off. I now find those same fies unzipped and washed are now .obj formats.

Sigh ******* sigh!! Never mind people I am deleting them, before I throw this machine in the air.

What is annoying is the fact if these files are indeed images and text then a .PDF would have saved a lot of headache.

Interesting..... Maybe the file didnt download properly... but normally that creates 2 files the original than a .part file
