Hi forum members,

I have a Dell Optiplex 3010 desktop running Windows 7 Pro, 32Bit in my office. This morning I was unable to access the internet though I was able to print and access other network drives. I did a troubleshoot and found out that networks status changed from work to public. Error on network icon is "Unidentified network, no internet access". I did ping our router but timmed out. I can ping other servers & PC's on the same network but cannot ping the router or default gateway. I did the following

1. ipconfig /release or renew-did not work
2. ipconfig /registerdns/flushdns - did not work
3. Disabled network card or enabled it - did not work
4. Changed IP address from DHCP to Static - did not work
5. Updated, uninstalled, repaired network driver - did not work
6.Changed Speed/Duplex settings to 100Mbps, 1TB or Auto - did not work
7. Removed other networking services - did not work
8. IPReset All - did not work
9. Removed all Antivirus softwares -did not work
10. Disabled firewall

I am not sure about this issue. If anyone can assist me here. I will really appreciate him or her. I have been working on this issue for almost a day now.

Thanks in advance
jshix

Post back when restore done and an attempt is made to access internet .

Run IPCONFIG from command prompt. Do it on computer that CAN access internet and the one that CANNOT. Post both results

Code:
4. Changed IP address from DHCP to Static - did not work
6.Changed Speed/Duplex settings to 100Mbps, 1TB or Auto - did not work

Set to DHCP as it should be. Put the Speed/Duplex setting back to what it was a few days ago (it was working).

Maybe you already answered it (I just joined this thread)... can other home computers ping the router?

Computer is connected WIRED to router, I assume?

I can ping other servers & PC's on the same network but cannot ping the router or default gateway.
internet Router and default gateway have the same ip-address I assume?! The computer's default gateway SHOULD be the ip address of the router which it is directly connect to. Normally you have this on your pc if using home routers:

Ip address: 192.168.x.y (y is different for each machine. DHCP gives you a free address)
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

In windows terms it means: 192.168.x.* are all attached to same router, no further routing needed. Requests to other ip addresses are delivered to "default gateway", he knows how to route it further.

default gateway: 192.168.x.z (z is most likely 1 or 254, but can be anything in range 1 to 254).
DNS-server: can be router's ip address (it simply forwards it to ISP). Or it can be ISP's DNS servers.

All above settings are done automatically when using DHCP.

Now waiting for IPCONFIG output

relevant data from not working machine:

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.46.60.46(Preferred) =>looks quite normal. Other home computers have ip address 10.46.60.* ? For example 10.46.60.51 ?
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 =>looks quite normal. Same subnet mask on working machine?
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.46.60.1 =>looks quite normal. Same IP on working machine?
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.46.60.1 =>same as default gateway... nice. It can find DHCP server
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 208.67.222.222 , 208.67.220.220 =>that's opendns. It's working on other machines. It's not a dns issue anyway!
