DHCP enabled but getting wrong IP

I am running Windows 7 Professional. I installed XP mode and am using DHCP however the IP it chooses is incorrect.

My NIC displays as Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller under Windows 7, but as Intel 21140-Based PCI Fast Ehternet Adapter (Generic) when I'm in XP mode. Uninstalling & reinstalling the adapter & trying to force a different driver doesn't seem to help make the VPC & the host have the same "named" card. I am using the Intel.... adapter for my Network connection in XP mode.

DHCP gives XP an IP of 192.168.131.65 and gateway of 192.168.131.254
These numbers are not my IP scheme on my SBS2008 domain. Using these settings, the internet functions, but I cannot join my domain, defeating the purpose of using XP mode for the legacy program I need to use.

Entering static IP addys & putting my DNS servers only takes away my internet connectivity and does not gain anything.

I have seen MANY people with this EXACT SAME issue (same IP addresses and all) and the topic never gets resolved, or the person gets told to call Microsoft support. Is there just no resolution? I need to join my domain. Please help! Thanks in advance.

First, XP Mode always uses the emulated Intel 21140-Based PCI Fast Ehternet Adapter, also when you have chosen your host's adapter in XP Mode settings. That's normal, and should be so.

The IP should automatically be from the address space used and given by your router. For instance, my Belkin router assigns addresses starting from 192.168.2.2, testing just now launching two XP Mode vm's they got IP's 192.168.2.7 and .8.

You have to join the domain manually. Read more here:

Glad you got it sorted. You were most likely in NAT mode on the networking rather than Bridged mode.

I was. It wasn't until I read the link that Kari posted that I knew to use the toolbar at the top of XP Mode instead of looking in the control panel. Just took that ONE missing piece of information.
