Different User Options

I've searched for this EVERYWHERE and can't find it. Maybe it isn't possible. I'm hoping it is.

I run an audio recording/editing workstation, but as they say, work hard, play hard, so my new rig also runs L4D2 and Battlefield BC2 :D . I have made 2 user accounts, WORK and PLAY. To run my new Digi 003 and Protools 8, DD recommends the following settings.

Set power setting to High Performance (no sleep)
Minimize visual effects (aero)
Limit all services to just Microsoft Services in MSCONFIG (No AVG, no Nvidia etc.)

The only thing that works between user accounts are the visual settings. Disabling services and setting power options on one account does the same to the other. I would also like to disable my internet connection on the WORK account (because AVG is disables).

So what do you guys say? Am I asking for the impossible?

Hello Dimak, welcome to the Seven Forums.

For this kind of usage, two completely different profiles, I recommend setting up a dual boot system installing the same OS to another partition. That makes it possible exactly as you want, two completely different boot profiles. The problem is, Windows EULA allows only one install on one computer, in one partition.

A more moderate solution is to strip down the boot options and then create a batch file to be automatically launched every time the account needing more is logged in. Put AV and other extras to this batch. Also this option has a drawback: it does fix the issue with internet connection and Aero.

I hope you'll find a solution that works for you.

Thanks for the advice. If I HAVE TO I'll eventually do a dual boot, but I think that 7 Ultimate should give you these kinds of administrative options. It doesn't make sense that they don't. It is highly probable that different users require different services to be running, and Ultimate should give you access to these kinds of administrative options. Here are some strange setting that I'm too scared to mess around with and can't find on the internet like
-CONFIGURE ADVANCED USER PROFILE PROPERTIES (sounds promising)
-CHANGE MY ENVIRONMENTAL VARIABLES (???)
-MANAGE CREDENTIALS (??)

I just have a gut feeling that this must be possible without a dual boot. Could be mistaken though. Anyone else have any ideas?

Me too, I am waiting other members to voice their opinions. This interests me quite a lot.

Keep in your mind that for instance those three things you mention deal with user profiles. However, what you want to do is not a user option; changing boot sequence affects the whole computer, every account.

As far as I know this isn't possible (irrespective of whether or not it should be). I too suggest a dual boot set up to get exactly what you're after
