Disabling Administrator Account

The thing is, it's disabled by default in windows 7. I tweak my system and sometimes go where no one has gone before.:shock: I may need that account to bail myself out afterwards, so I enable it and password protect it.

That's very odd. I've installed Windows 7 at least 30 times on various machines and it has never had the Administrator account disabled. Just checked it on this machine, and it's enabled, and I didn't do anything to enable it.

Default Administrator account, or hidden Administrator account?

There is only one account named "Administrator." You can't have multiple account with the same name.

The account type doesn't come into play. You can have as many administrator-type accounts as you want. I'm talking about the account named "Administrator"...in your image, you don't show one.

I've attached my user list as well. I have never run any type of command to enable or disable any accounts on my system.

Okay, I did a little research on this, and it turns out we all have a terminology problem.

The Administrator account on Windows 7 is NOT "disabled" by default. It simply does not show on the welcome screen.

The command that was presented earlier in the thread has nothing to do with "enabling" the account at all. It only causes it to be shown on the welcome screen. The account itself is always active unless you disabled it manually from the user control panel.

You are correct. That is why a lot of us call it the "hidden administrator account". In effect, one does enable it by unhiding it. Hidden, it can't accessed.

Hi,
I was attempting to open up a program on my desktop.
The user account control pops up and ask if I went this program to
continue. The only option is to click on "no". How do I go about changing this?

The "Yes" button is faded. The option is to click on the "No" button.

Sounds like a virus or other malware. What program are you trying to open? Can you boot into safe mode?

Mine looks the same way. "No" is the default; simply click on "Yes". It works on my system.
