I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. After having installed Windows 7 I was not able to record - microphone would not recognise my voice. Now, after having download the SigmaTel Device Drivers I can hear my voice but the background is crackly and the noises are high-pitched.
On most Dell's the Dell sound drivers need to be used for proper operation. Dell only supports Vista 32 bit and not Vista 64 bit or Windows 7 with drivers on this system. If you have Windows 7, try the Dell SigmaTel drives and see if they work OK. Drivers and Downloads
If this driver is what you have or doesn't work, the only suggestion is to look around for a different SigmaTel (now called IDT) that you can get to work.
