Does your icons refresh / flicker quickly on startup?

My icons flicker / refresh quickly on statup. Wondering if this is normal? Install like a week or 2 old.

it's happened to me a time or two but it's nothing bad I think. Try upgrading your video drivers to see if that has any effect.

Mine do that every now and then. I attribute it to some services loading.

I get similar when i login, most of my desktop icons are blank icons until fully loaded up then they refresh and done. Not sure if this the same as what your on about, but it is something i have had with every XP, vista and 7 install i have had to date

My XP does it three or four times before everything is fully loaded.

Guess it's normal. Guess OS X and linux don't have this problem cause were better than them.

They don't flicker on mine, they are pretty much immediate but I know what the OP means - have seen this on other machines.

ya i get the same thing .. i always thought it's because of MSE or ati catalyst .. doesnt cause any problems though.

My Win7 netbook does this every time I boot it. It slows my boot time down to 1 min 15 sec. Its a pain. Have not been able to figure out why it happens. On boot, I get all my icons shown on the desktop. Then, towards the end of the boot process, the system blanks out all the desktop icons (they're all white) and starts reloading the appropriate icon images. It takes forever. Aggravating.

Try to tick box in folder options "Always show icons, never miniatures"
This might help! or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer add "Max Cached Icons" at value 4096. One of these options solved issue for me.

Using "normal" and "computer behavior" is a dichotomy. To more directly answer your question; the behavior is not unusual. I have seen systems rebuild the icon cache when booting take a couple or more seconds. For the most part, the refresh is associated with some startup program running in the background and is not a cause for concern.

But it does get a bit of annoying to me. How would I be able to pinpoint which startup program is causing this behavior?
