Downloaded files not saved to library?

Let's not cloud the issue...I think the OP may be misunderstanding how Libraries work.

That's exactly why I suggested a different folder to download to. I was seeking to cla rify the issue not to cloud it. Perhaps a little less knee jerk and a little more thought on your part would have been more appropriate (IMHO, of course!)

They've not been downloaded as hidden files, I have my folders set to display hidden files.

I did try to download elsewhere - I tried saving the file onto my desktop, but it didn't show up there either.

I had three locations included in my documents library: c:\users\name\my documents (default), c:\users\public, and c:\users\name\my documents\ftm\ftm files. The last location was effectively in twice, as it was already included as a subdirectory in the default library path (c:\users\name\my documents). I didn't know if this was causing a problem so I removed it from the library but it hasn't made any difference.

I remembered that certain file management activities are available when a "file save as" explorer window is open (e.g. you can delete or move files through that window when it is open). So I tried to move the files when the "file save as" explorer window was open (the window shown as untitled1.jpg in post #12). I was able to move these files, but I still can't see them at the new location. I tried copying the file, only to get a message that the original file could not be located. From this, it seems that Windows thinks the files have been saved when looking through the "file save as" window, but the file hasn't actually been saved. But as you can see from untitled2.jpg, I have been able to save a file from this website before.

I have tried turning off the pc and rebooting.

have you tried doing a dir command from a command prompt.

Well here's a stab in the dark. I had a similar problem to this and solved it thus.
Open the website that contains the file you wish to download in IE8. Click "Tools" then click "Compatibility view settings" Click "Add" to add the site to the list then lick close. Think you will then need to close IE8 and re-open it. Then try your download. Worth a try and can do no harm.

The problem here is that you can't download anything to your Libraries, it's not made for that. Library's are only picture icons of the files stored in your User folders, they aren't the actual file but mearly a place where you can see all the files stored on many different drives all in one location. Obviously this won't work for a place to download any files to because libraries aren't made for storing the actual files as they only represent files stored in your User folders.

It works best to download things to "Username Downloads" or just download them to your desktop or one of your User folders. At that point you can move the file to any of your "User folders" at which point it will "show up" in your Library's.

Looking at the strange icons in the Op's Libraries I'd say that some of the Libraries default locations were changed which isn't a good idea.

Of course you can download to your libraries!

Each library has a default save location...look in the properties. When you save to that library, the file(s) go automatically to the default save location.

And, why would you say that it's not a good idea to change locations in libraries? THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE FOR! They are to help you organize your files the way you want them. If you keep documents in 17 locations, then by golly, add 17 locations to your Documents library! That's why it's there!

I think the Op is messing with the libraries default locations is the problem, look at the icons for his libraries, they aren't default. Seems to me if he was doing it correctly then it would be working.

One thing I will say with absolute certainty. These files have been downloaded SOMEWHERE on the OPs hard drive. Personally, I would open an elevated command prompt, change to C:\, and type DIR eng*.jp* /s /a

Every jpg and jpeg file on the hard drive that starts with "eng" IS going to show up, and I guarantee yours is there somewhere.

I think the Op is messing with the libraries default locations is the problem, look at the icons for his libraries, they aren't default. Seems to me if he was doing it correctly then it would be working.

I made no changes to the default locations - but I did add a further library to put any downloaded programs.

Every jpg and jpeg file on the hard drive that starts with "eng" IS going to show up, and I guarantee yours is there somewhere.

Sorry to disappoint you Mac but they were not downloaded - I don't know why.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who offered suggestions on this thread. This seemingly minor issue was causing me some grief as I wanted to send these jpgs to family members and the inability to simply downlaod a file was immensely frustrating. Thank you all.

You are not alone, I understand what you are doing as I am having the same problem to which I have posted a thread, and it is very frustrating I must have about 150 records which I cannot find. To try and get around the problem in the meantime I have read that saving the files first to a USB then copying them to your computer which is what I am going to try but does not help solve the problem of where the files are and having to redo all what I have done.
