Hi, thanks for reading.

I cant seem to find the answer to this even though i have searched, so if this is a repost please delete it mods. Sorry.

I recently purchased Windows 7 Home Premium and have installed the 64bit version on my new build.
I want to build another pc for my daughter and use the 32bit disk which at the moment lives in the drawer.

Can i buy a license for this spare disk or is it redundant and only good for a drinks coaster lol ?

Thanks for any info.

Hi,

You will need to purchase a new licence (the disks are included). The disks are just a fraction of the cost of the licence : its simply there for you to use if you decide to reinstall 32 bit Windows to the same PC as your 64bit version.

Golden

if you decide to reinstall 32 bit Windows to the same PC as your 64bit version.
you mean you can install 32bit windows on a 64bit computer? Say if I wanted to add another drive to the same pc.

Hi,

Yes, you can install 32bit to a 64bit computer. The idea behind the 2 disks is that MS doesn't know before hand whether you want to install 32 or 64 bit, so it gives you the choice by including both disks in the purchase.

Note that in my 1st reply, I used the word reinstall : I didn't mean install 32bit on one disk, and 64bit on another disk, on the same computer. I'm not sure that would work anyway, but it falls under the realms of dual-boot, and thats not my area of expertise.

Golden

Thanks again NoN, i have looked at this link and can only see a family pack option for £150 ish, so i have mailed MS and asked them if i can just buy a license from them, i explained i have a spare 32bit disk from my home premium pack and i also explained that just going out and buying another pack is firstly a waste of materials (in a green world we live in) and its also a little dissrespectful as an existing MS cutomer that i should be expected to pay the same as a new buyer.....customer loyalty and all that lol....

Anyways i will post back here when they reply.

Thanks again for the input thus far, it is appreciated.

Regards.
