I have been getting this at startup for a long while now and i haven't noticed any problems with any app or hardware that i can think. But of i'd still like to know what this is about. Any ideas how i can find what this is because as you see it doesn't give me any details at all and there are no yellow exclamations in device manager.

Installed 4.5, no joy. Can't system restore because the oldest restore point is recent. This issue has been happening for several months.

Just out of curiosity, what program, software, or app is generating this "warning" (can you right click on the tray icon to bring up a properties dialog box or a help dialog box?) Are you running any "optimizer" programs like Advanced System Care, Speed Up My PC, etc? Have you run a full system scan with your installed anti-virus program to check for malware? Have you tried any other on-demand scanners like Malwarebytes, ESET Online Scanner, Hitman Pro, SuperAntispyware, etc? (All of these are free.)

I'm running absolute minimal startup items, and the few that I do i've run long before this started. I have no virus scanners or anything like that. I run a very minimal clean system and nothing gets my ok to run but a few tiny things that i've always run. I'm quite sure whatever this is doesn't have to be running to notify me on startup, which makes me think a hardware driver. But i fear updating drivers to see if it will stop this because when i do more than 1/2 the time it screws something up. This doesn't seem to be causing any trouble so i would rather not do that because i'll be kicking myself if it causes problems.

Ok, i tried that and found one entry with a yellow !. I googled it and it's supposedly something left over from an uninstalled app like AVG which i DID have at one time. So they said delete it which i did but i still get the prompt on startup.

EDIT: i just noticed my when i view hidden items theres one called "other devices" when when expanded shows logitech gaming HID device. So i updated my logitech driver/software and upon restart still get the prompt. I also noticed a correlation i think....there appear to be TWO of those driver incompatibility prompts. I thought it was just one but it appears to shift a bit to the left after a few seconds and i believe what that is is the first one disappearing and the second popping up. That would make sense since i found 2 hidden items with exclamations. Tho the logitech wasn't yellow and actually i think it was a ? not exclamation. And in any case both (assuming it IS 2 of them) prompts are still there ar startup.

Hidden and other devices respond to an uninstall, meaning - they do uninstall, but only after a reboot. If they can't be killed that nice way, they can be eliminated with some deep registry surgery, which is also quite dangerous if done by a novice. Try going the usual way first and uninstall through the Device Manager interface.

Logitech is a bad, bad driver coder. I remember when they drove me crazy with inserting upper filters somewhere in the audio stack or the CD drive just because I installed ''additional software'' for their webcam ''needed for proper functioning'' or something. I don't even remember if it was BSODs, a disfunctional optical drive or mute audio, but I found the cause and it was the Logitech driver team's doing. I drew a lesson from that - never, ever accept ''additional software'' from Logitech, even if offered through Windows. Just the basic drivers will do, if they can't be avoided themselves.

yeah, i know about logi but in the last few years i've had no issues with it so I dunno. I use a lot of the functions for gaming and would be lost w/o it. Like i said, i'm not experiencing any issues, i'd just like to stop those d@mn prompts.

First of all don't use avg.I know that avg av or optimizer found something suspicious files and you remove them, I think after that you got into this trouble
And now I think there is nothing to do you have to format with windows 7 dvd or you can try reinstall all
driver.

No, believe me, i exhausted all possible options trying to click it and theres nothing telling me what it is. The only reason i started this thread is because i can't find out. Clicking it does nothing and clicking the little icon in it just brings up the taskbar customization menu. Amazing how after decades MS still hasn't figured out how to keep you informed about whats going on with your OS. In many ways things are worse than with windows 98 where i started.

Just read through this thread and see that in post #8 you said
I have no virus scanners or anything like that.
Are you saying you have no A/V installed?

Did you install any games?

You could try uninstalling all third party programs which you installed.

Then if the warning still appears, try using msconfig to diagnose.

Perhaps, posting FRST logs will help us determine the issue.

It just occured to me - the best way to troubleshoot this is Russinovich's Autoruns. In the Drivers tab, it will list every single driver known to a particular Windows installation. For someone who has an inkling of what should NOT be listed there, it's the best place to test a solution and solve the problem.
