Driver pre-install.

Sure, a lot of hardware wants the driver installed and then prompts you to plug in the device (mouse, printer...)
The install might complain if the device is not present, but the install might provide an escape clause "hit the skip button if you haven't installed the hardware" - or something to that effect.
