Duplicate folders on desktop, move where?

I'm cleaning up a 7 pc & trying to clean up the 'look' like what's on the desktop. I have a few folders such as Music and Pictures that duplicate what you find on the Left when you open up My Computer.

They hold the same files. I don't want to delete anything but how do I get rid of the folders on the desktop? I can't just delete like a shortcut. Similar folders appear in some other subfolders on the system. Don't know how Uncle created these.

It does depend on where the files are actually located. If they are located in the Desktop Folder then deleting them from the Desktop will permanently remove them. However, if it's a shortcut Right Clicking on it & from the list select Open File Location, click on that & it will take you to where the file is.

If click on Documents from the Start Menu, it should open & show you a list. You should see Desktop as one of them, click on that & it will show you a list of Desktop Files. If you wish to remove one or more & save them to a new location, you need to firstly set up the new location, so now click on Documents in Libraries & when it opens, right click anywhere on a blank section & select New & from that select Folder. This will then be shown in the Documents list. Right Click on it & Rename it to what you would like.

Now go back to the file in Desktop that you want removed & Right Click on it & select Copy, then go to the new Folder you set up in Documents & Paste it in there. Keep repeating this for any others you wish to remove from the Desktop. When completed & the files open correctly from the new location, delete them from the Desktop Folder.
