Editing File Extensions

I have a lot of thumbnails suffixed with the .jpeg extension, which XBMC cannot see. If I change that to .jpg, it can. The problem is that it would be very tedious doing them one by one.

I looked through the options in the Bulk Rename Utility, and it seems that there is no option to change the extension, so I'm wondering if there is another program that can change extensions in mass?

Better File Rename can do it.

**EDIT** Appears the trial is limited in the number of file names it will re-name. Doh!!

A quick look suggests Batch File Renamer can do it

It's a very simple program, but it gets the job done.

I see this later,but also FileMenuTools can do that. Just select all files,right click on one of them and select FileMenuTools->Advanced Renamer. There select just Change Extension.

I've run into another problem that I don't understand. Editing the extensions worked perfectly in one folder which was comprised mostly of images that I had scanned myself, but the majority of images were in another folder within a different program...Movie Collector. I copied/pasted the folder contents to the same folder as the other images, after editing the extensions in the same fashion as before, so that as far as I can see, there is no difference between the two groups of images, yet none of the second group is visible within XBMC. I never thought anything so simple could be so complex. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to simplify this?

As this is related to images - it may be that there is an issue with the version of JPEG used for the two sets of images - the JPEG standard has evolved over the years and it may be that the one set is of an older type or more likely newer than that supported

See if Irfanview can cast any light on things If you can read both types it should be possible to batch convert to a usable version of JPEG

I just wanted to report that your suggestion did the trick. I hadn't used Irfanview to process multiple files at the same time before, but it did it quite nicely, and even though I set it to convert jpg to jpg, all of the thumbnails now appear in XBMC as they should. Thanks for the right idea.
