Enterprise vs. Ultimate

Does anyone know the differences between Windows 7 Enterprise & Ultimate?

Thanks guys. I was just curious because my Microsoft TechNet subscription offers both versions for download. So I take it the volume licensing allows you to install Enterprise as many times as you want?

Well, if the only difference between Ultimate & Enterprise is the licensing, then I can only imagine that you will be allowed to install Enterprise as many times as you want. Seems logical doesn't it? What else could possibly be different about the licensing between the two editions?

I've read the whole thing, and it's typical Microsoft EULA terminology. So, as usual, Microsoft was about as clear as mud. You have to be an attorney to decipher it....LOL

The primary difference is that Enterprise is not sold in retail channels. You cannot order it from NewEgg, you cannot get it from Best Buy and it won't come preinstalled on any computer that you purchase. Enterprise is for volume license customers only.

With regards to how many times you can install it, this is governed by your enterprise agreement with Microsoft. You are required to pay for your copies and there is a true-up agreement at the end of the year where you are required to report how many copies are in use.

Since you are getting yours from Technet, you will receive the typical 10 keys which are good for something like 10+ installs. With most Technet software, this more or less gives you the ability to install it as many times as you want.

Thanks for the clarification. Understanding Microsoft EULA's is definately not one of my strong points. What your saying makes sense. I do know, however, that the ten installs covers ten different PC's, not just ten installs on the same machine. TechNet makes that pretty clear. I wish I had known about them a long time ago.
