I have a few old but working SATA internal HDs and id like to use them as external back up drives.I see on the back of my pc that there is an ESATA slot and was wondering if this socket could be used to connect my HD and create a system backup, I have one of the usb gadgets for connecting HDs but they are slow and I was wondering if the ESATA slot if usable would be faster.

It would be faster than USB 2.0 but you could do just as well using USB 3.0 as you would with e-SATA.

To use the e-SATA port, you would need a dock or enclosures to put the drives into that have e-SATA connectability. Since the port is on the rear, making getting at it a bit inconvenient, I would suggest using a dock that can set on top of or alongside your computer, then just plug the bare drives into it when you are updating the backups.

Keep in mind that backup drives should be connected to the computer only when updating the backups.
