Thanks, but why would all these problem occur in Windows 7 but not Vista?? Is Windows 7 more susceptable to these type issues??

That poses a very good question? I no longer have that WISP. but I can
get access to a WISP connection and they run Vista.... where as I have
laptop same as only has Win 7. Let me see when I can run some tests on this..

Im not sure,but seems its all about utorrent 1.8.4 or something. Then it is not running its all ok, but then it starts download internet crashes.And crashes then downloading big files. Ill try older version. Sorry for my english

That is a good point. We would need to know who is using uTorrent here. If everybody does, then the problem is there (the association of Win7 and uTorrent, not uTorrent itself).

7100 network issue, imagine that

Hi,

It looks like I am not the only one having these type of issues but I network of a Sprint Sierra 598u. Everything has always worked fine until my genius brother talked me into switching my OS to the 7100 build from vista. I network two computers sharing the internet and files. I thought and then out of nowhere the second computer wouldn't connect to the internet. Checked the onboard NIC drivers they were fine, nothing. Switched all ethernet calbes out. Nothing, Installed new netgear gig nic card. Nothing, purchased new netgear switch, nothing. Long story short, somehow in the network settings and such I can see the "internet gateway device" and the other computer. It says that it is an unidentified network with no internet access. So when you run the cheap As* network configure tool it says does not have valid ip config on e the second computer. I even hooked up my WAP54g acces point which is a plug and play as it gets and it doesn't get an ip or nor can I connect to it. I only run windows firewall and it is not that. I am sure guys probably already have the answer by this point so please save me a trip to the gas station before I take a match to the whole thing!!! Thanks Kevin

This should also work if you system is 3.65 Mhz WISP. make sure your MTU is reset to PPPOE specs or if possible lower by 8 until packet loss stops.
If the problem still is CRAPPY or constant low speeds or PAcket loss.
it is due to the MODULE installed on the tower. He had to RESET the older MODULEs quite often due to PACKET LOSS.

Don't know - but you might follow the link a RESET your system if possible like mentioned.
At different times, if packet loss is grossly to high, unplug your MODEM for over 3m this allows a Modem reset to clean. If you do not need 24/7 unplug and let it reset.

put all you details of your problem logs etc
& wait for a response

Your log is just telling you that PPP connection is being lost/reconnected, check this out with provider.

Check for faulty cabling/filters & ensure that all devices attached to line are filtered.

What are current attenuation & snr.

Consult the Admin of your router
give them all detail log details etc

Thanks for the followup but I don't understand how it could be packet loss or poor connections since everything works perfect in Vista.

Identical hardware behaves significantly different between Vista and W7.

I can't help but think there's still some Ethernet driver or OS bugs. With launch approaching in a week or so I'm going to wait it out.

[/quote]could you fill in your specs. What version of Win 7 are you using? If Beta then Yes, I do hope 7600 fill fix it. I had major problems with 7100 RC1, but then all problems were removed when I went to 7104.
Currently using 7600 Home Premium, Pro, Ultimate and NO problems at this time. so lots of different hardware and devices. testing both wired and wireless.

*Advanced* driver setting may be the culprit.

I got mine to stop randomly dropping connection by disabling "Receive side scaling" in the "Advanced" tab of the driver page.

Not sure if this is available for ALL ethernet adapters, or just the ones from Nvidia.

If your card's driver has such a setting, try disabling and see if the random disconnects go away.

There has been considerable re-working of the IP stack in 7, and as a result bugs like this are not unexpected.

I get the same issue but restarting my network adapter (Marvell Yukon PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller) works for me. I do not have the option "Receive side scaling".
Mine does seem related to starting my torrent software, though it occasionally happens at random times.
I have a batch file to restart my network connection. Not sure if this has been covered in the thread but it is possible to use DevCon to restart the network adapter:

Restart a Network Adapter from the command line using DevCon

The DevCon utility is a command-line utility that acts as an alternative to Device Manager.

1. Download DevCon:
The DevCon command-line utility functions as an alternative to Device Manager

2. Unzip and copy the relevant (to your OS) version (32-bit or 64-bit) to the Windows\System32 folder.

3. If you are confident you only have one 'PCI' network adapter on your system, or you have more but wish to restart all of them, you can just open a command prompt (as an administrator) and enter:

devcon /restart =net PCI\*

(this is the command I use as I only have one PCI network adapter installed)

3. If you have more than one PCI network adapter and just wish to restart just one of them then you will need to find them all by searching the 'Net setup class'.
Open a command prompt (as an administrator) and enter:

devcon /find =net PCI\*

As I have just one PCI network adapter installed. The above command returns:

5. You can also search for all 'Net' setup class' devices (for instance if you have a USB one) by using the command:

devcon /find =net

6. Again, once you have located your device you can restart it by using the above commands. e.g.

devcon /restart =net USB\VEN_11AC

7. Once you have identified the command to restart your network adapter you can save it into a batch file and execute it (as an administrator).

Are you referring to the option: "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" on the Power Management tab for the network adapter?
If so this was the first thing I tried. It did not work

I've also had problems with my Ethernet connection. It was dropping almost everyday, very randomly and I have an Nvidia nForce 10/100/1000 Ethernet adapter. The other day I disabled from cmd (command prompt) some options related to IPv6 and looks like the connection has been working correctly since then but I cannot guarantee yet that this is a permanent solution. These are the commands you have to enter in cmd:

netsh interface ipv6 6to4 set state disabled disabled

netsh interface ipv6 6to4 set routing disabled disabled

netsh interface ipv6 isatap set router default disabled

netsh interface ipv6 isatap set state disabled

netsh interface ipv6 set teredo disabled

If the operation was succesful, when you type ipconfig in cmd you should see only your IPv4 parameters (something similar with my printscreen). I would be glad to receive some feedback regarding this possible solution.

I believe the below registry change achieves the same thing:

I made this change along time ago and I certainly have no IPv6 references showing when I check with ipconfig.
I still get my network connection dropping off.

I have the same or similar drop out problem.

I did disable my MB's onboard Realtek 8111 ethernet and tried a D-Link PCI ethernet adapater. It made absolutely no difference. So my advice is to save your money because this is unlikely to fix the problem.

I also bypassed my router and went straight to my WISP's broadband antenna connection and still had dropouts. That rules out my router.

I tried all other fixes on this thread. With W7 launching this week I'm hoping this issue gets addressed soon. This thread already has 30,000 views so once W7 hits the market I expect many more users to have this problem. However I have no idea why only some users are affected??

My theory is that it's W7 does ethernet differently then Vista and that most ethernet drivers or the OS itself needs updating. Either that or there's some interaction with the internet itself. My exact same H/W works perfect in Vista.

There are still more questions then answers.

In my case I wanted to buy a PCI card because if I get the problem again, at least I will have another Ethernet adapter to plug my cable, for now I got a USB-Ethernet adapter which I don't really like and a wireless, not stable enough for my PC usage (work).

I will tell you if I still have the problem with the Intel card soon. I should receive it this week, I assume it will take 1-2 weeks to know if the problem occurs again.

I think its just a mater of getting used to it
