Hi everyone, I'm about to blow my head off if I don't find the cause and fix this issue.

Every download I'm doing with my PC ends somewhere without completing. Wether I use Firerox, Chrom or Explorer.

My PC is wired to the router, I've replaced the cable so it is not the cable.

I have no antivirus, and I shuted down Windows Defender.

Whether I use DHCP or hard coded IP/DNS, same issue.
I have a laptop wireless and I can download the files I want without any problem.

When the download stop I can still navigate on the internet using any browser I wish to.

With firefox, I can pause the download and restart it right away and it continue the download (but stop somewhere else down the line at witch point I can pause and restart again!)

If I let it go, with firefox, it stops, wait a while and seems to retart a bit later but it takes a hell of time to download a simple file. Meanwhile, the laptop never stops downloading the same file.

I don't what happens as it used to go well no so long ago. I did reinstall a fresh windows with the same issue.

Next step is to reinstall again and try downloading BEFORE patching the system.

Is this issue familiar with any of you. Could you share advice and save my life?

Thanks for you help and support

Regards,

What is your ISP?

If it's satellite or something, they can be pretty onerous about DL quotas and such.

Other small ISPs could be pretty random with their DL behavior.

Ooops, I missed that your laptop works fine wirelessly...

Hmm, how about if you hook your laptop up wired? And see if that starts failing.

If so then there may be an issue with the router itself. Since wireless is so much slower, there may be a problem that only shows up when wired and DLing at full speed?

Lol, I was anticipating that question (was wondering the same thing as well) and just did the test.

I've started my download on my PC before even starting this thread (52 minutes as I write these lines) well, I'm currently at 1 gig of this 1.3 gig file. Fifteen minutes ago I hooked up my laptop the the router and started the download. Same file, same download site, 15 minutes later the file is downloaded.

This might rule out the router along with the internet link.

Still leave me with my problem though!

Thanks for trying to help me by the way, really appreciated!

Does the DL seem to stop at like a constant point like after X meg or something? Or just randomly?

The transfer speed being so much lower than the laptop is strange. Seems like it may come down to with the ethernet adapter or cable or driver o nthe PC.

I'd try replacing the cable, then the driver (new driver from net (DLed on your laptop :D)) then if you have a second ethernet port on the computer or a spare adapter...

Though also, might want to do a malware and stand alone virus sweep just to be sure as well :/

Cable already been replaced by brand new one, same issue. Download stop randomly, sometimes it gets to 300mb sometines as short as 27mb.

System is freshly rebuild from formatted partition so viruses or malware is unlikely (not to say impossible).

As for the adapter driver, Intel is telling me I have the latest but will have a closer look at that particular point.

EDIT: The download just finished on my PC (more than an 1.5 hour to download 1.3G) and is corrupt, can't do anything with it except start downloading anew.

Well here's where I'd dig into my drawer of old parts and find a PCI ethernet card and try that out :/

(I only just recently threw out all my ISA ethernet, modem and serial port cards :D)

Oh! Boy!

I am so ashame you have no idea!!!!! :o

I was so convinced that my network adapter was an intel device. I went to Intel website to scan my system for newer driver and it said nothing about the network adapter so I assumed the drivers were up to date. But your post made me wonder, rookie mistake, my network adapter is an embeded Realtek driver and THERE IS newer drivers!

I just installed latest drivers from Gigabyte site and finished downloading the 1.3Gigabyt file in less than 20 minutes.

Man, I wish I could buy back my afternoon, stupid mistake!!!!

THANKS fseal, you've been of great help making me look where I should have in the first place.
