I installed Microsoft Office 2003 because I prefer the older versions without all that fancy automatic formatting. Whenever I start Excel it goes into install mode and then tells me that my object library stdole32.tbd is damaged or missing. It goes on to load and work fine., but I'd like it to just start up normally. Any fixes.

Hi:

Support for Office 2003 ended years ago and it is quite insecure.

Having said that...

Have you tried to REPAIR the program?

This is for Office 2010, but the process might be similar in Office 2003 (sorry but I have no way to test it, as I do not have Office 2003):

How to Repair an Office 2003 Program: 15 Steps
https://www.companionlink.com/support/kb/Repair/Re-install_Outlook_2003,_2007,_2010,_2013,_2016

  1. Open Control Panel (Start>Settings>Control Panel)
  2. Select Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Select Microsoft Office.
  4. Click the Change.
  5. Select the Reinstall or Repair button, click Next.
  6. Select Detect and Repair.
  7. Click Install and follow any prompts provided by the repair tool.
I hope this helps,

MM

P.S. Office 2003 is very insecure. If you do not wish to upgrade to a supported version of MS Office, you might want to consider switching to an open-source equivalent, such as LibreOffice. That would be much safer than running Office 2003, with its many security vulnerabilities.

That help a lot. I didn't even know about that repair option. I've tried re-install and other versions. When I inquire on the web a lot of people have the same thing so I was thinking it's either a virus or some quirk.
