exe files loaded from networked computer slow to load

I added a second machine to my home network, and want to share files back and forth between machine A and machine B. Both are win7 x64 ultimate. I have a shortcut on B's desktop to a folder located on A called "sharedfolder". When using system B and I click in A\sharedfolder, I can then click on a pdf, or an avi, or txt, or whatever, and it loads just as quickly as if the file were on B's hard drive. But if I click on an exe file, it take about 15-20 seconds to load. No prompt, no nothing, it just takes that long. Anyone know what is the deal? It happens with or without no antivirus running.

Thanks a lot

When you just click an exe file like that, it needs a location to run the file. So first it has to completely download the file to the local machine's temp folder then check it, then run it from the networked computer. It's kind of like running an exe from the internet. I find it is always better to run a program from a local machine.

Even in server-client applications there is soemthing that runs locally and access files on the server. I'm afraid it's always going to take those few extra moments to run an application from a networked machine compared to running it locally. When you open say a jpg file the program that's showing it is running local and only accessing the file remotely.

I just ran a comparison and here are the results:

- manual copy from sharedfolder to local desktop, followed by clicking on new desktop file: total of 1.5 seconds for exe to open (that's for both the copy, plus opening the file)

- clicking on same exe in remote sharedfolder: 35 seconds for exe to open

so something else must be happening here

edit: figured it out. I did not realize I had MS security essentials running. Just had to create an exception. thanks for your help

but now I have another issue.... I'll post that in a new thread
