Extra USB Port Extenders

Hello,

Amazing how fast one uses up the USB Ports supplied in the desktop PC.
Am trying to only use the ones in the back, as it gets messy if I also use the two on the front.

Have an external powered 4-Port hub that I purchased, and am using that also.

Seems like I need another one or two spigots.

Question: If I get another powered external 4-Port extender, can this be plugged into a port on the existing extra Port extender I already have, or must it only be plugged into one of the USB ports in the back of the PC ?

Does it matter at all, and the PC will recognize it either way ?

You should be able to plug right into your existing USB hub rather than going all the way back to the PC...

Theoretically the limit on daisy chaining USB devices is 127 per port...
However i wouldn't recommend it.
Why not add a USB PCI card ? ?

Frankly, I am not too sure about installing one; if I can or not.

I have a new HP PC, and I have never in my life (retired Engr.) seen such a mess of wiring like what's inside this new HP desktop.
Really denotes what sloppy and non-professional mean.
A real disgrace.
No wiring harness, or even a few tie-wraps to neaten things up

Would hate to have to try and move wires around to install the card.
Hard to believe that I could do it without messing something up by moving a wire, disrupting a connector, etc.

Thoughts ?

Instead of daisy chaining another hub, why not just get a 7 port hub instead? That way you would have 3 additional ports, and keep things somewhat tidier.

check your pci slots that you have open on the back or your PC. You should have 1 or 2 empty slots available. Go to your local retail store...ie...walmart and pick one up for $20 or less. Install it into one of the empty slots. That easy.

And to answer your other question it will add 4 or 6 Ports...plus 1 Bluetooth...dependin on which card you choose...

Doesn't sound like the OP will be anywhere near 127. A PCI card will just lead him back under his desk where he doesn't want to go.

Power draw shouldn't be a problem if the hubs are self-powered (most are).

I have a powered USB Hub to which I've attached another USB Hub. No problems found.
