Firefox 5.0 released

So what is the "Final" version number? Is it different from the Final I supposedly downloaded last week? 5.0.0.4183

A Guy

You're right. :)

I don't like Firefox-Look-Like-Chrome update process too.
Browsers have evolved, FF is not the only Browser to 'mimic' Chrome

(Not directed at you specifically, just launching off your observation)

Heh, a lot of people (myself included) might say that the UI is in fact devolving. Moving towards something that might look more at home on a V-Smile device for 4 year old kids.

Yeah everyone is heading towards the playskool look with serious UI performance issues to boot. It's NOT a good thing.

And in the end, if every browser looks and acts the same, what the heck is the point?!? They should ALL forge their OWN paths WRT the UI (Though make the rendering stanardized of course)

First the horribly broken concept of searching from the URL bar and soon, no URL bar at all. Dumbed down interfaces for dumbed down users I guess... :(

Holy cow ..I just update to FF5 and my IDM 6.05 B.14 stop working ...
Can anybody give me the link to get FF4 back ...Please ..

Thank you .

Use the Compatibility Reporter 0.8.5 which allows your addins to continue to run in FF 5.0 even if not officially compatible and allows you to report issues with said add-ons.

I had two add-on's reported as not compatible but they continue to work after the upgrade.

WOW ..OK ..I'll try it .
Thanks .

What the hell is it with everyone hating on FF4/5? Seriously?
Aside from the graphics change, it works just fine (if not better than 3.6).

All I see in this thread is bitching, whining, and complaining about how pissed they are that Mozilla is being progressive and actually updating their products.
Specifically about the FF5 update as the "final" "security" update for FF4, you do realize they look EXACTLY the same? I am sure you don't since you haven't installed it to TRY the damn thing before bitching and switching to a new browser.

I am seriously sick of all this crap. HTFU or get a new browser, but please stop bitching about it on EVERY thread.

Let the flames flow.

~Lordbob

+1, could not agree more and by using the Compatibility add-on even add-on's not officially compatible continue to run......Contempt prior to investigation does not serve anyone very well. Why bother to post anti-FF comments if you don't use it in the first place. Just move on....nothing to see here.

Totally agree.....however, when you upgrade from FF3 to FF4 or FF5 and the add-on not compatible window comes up that does not mean that the add-on was tested on FF5, it only means that the developer hasn't listed it as compatible with FF5, hence the add-on "compatibility reporter" and the ability to report if things do not work properly. What I was agreeing with was people who don't use FF and feel the need to bash the product in a FF thread which a lot of the prior negative comments were showing. FF does indeed need feedback from legitimate users so as to improve on the current product.

For people who just like to bash a product without using it I would recommend trolling on ZDnet where this is the status quo.

I find 5.0 32bit as fast as the nightly 7.0 64bit. A good jump in performance over 4.0 as measured with Peacekeeper. So now it is my main browser instead off the nightly 64bit as it has a fully functional flash and supports all the plug-ins I use.

I took the time to benchmark FF4, FF5 and IE9 x86/x64, IE9 still makes better use of video acceleration, while FF still tends to load pages a bit quicker. Overall I still use IE9 x64 as my main browser.

I think anyone expecting FF5 to be a huge upgrade will be disappointed, not to suggest it isn't better, it certainly is, I just think it's a numbers game. Although I did encounter several Flash related bugs, no crashes.

For people who just like to bash a product without using it I would recommend trolling on ZDnet where this is the status quo.

It is very difficult to post sensible comments there. :(

I suggest that if people are worried about their add-ons changing/failing, they should back up their profiles, BEFORE installing the latest version.

Hi xptowindows7. :)
Go to https://www.google.com/intl/en/toolbar/ff/install.html and see if it works again.

Had to go to Mozilla add on, by clicking Tools > Add on

Navigate to C:\users\(Your user name)\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

See if you have a folder named 3112ca9c-de6d-4884-a869-9855de68056c

Inside find the install.rdf file, change the targetApplication max version value from 4.0.* to 5.0.*
