Flash Player Problem

Hi, for some weeks I continually have the problem that I get a message that I need to install the adobe flash player on both IE and Non IE browsers. I have used the adobe uninstaller and then downloaded the latest versions, which will then work okay but the next day I get the same message.
Has anyone got ideas on how to fix this problem.

The next time you see that message, don't do anything. Instead, go to Control Panel>>Flash Player>>Advanced Tab and press "Check Now". That will take you to Adobe's website to a page showing you the version you have installed and a table showing the current version. (If you want to update to current, there is also a link on that page to the "Player Download Center".) The idea is to see if you really need to install the player or if the website telling you to install isn't designed properly.

Agreed. Poor website design can give a user error messages when the user is not the problem.

Thanks for your replies, when I switched on my computer today and tried to watch a video on a website I again got the message " WERE SORRY! you need to update your flash player. Followed instructions Control Panel>>Flash Player>>Advanced Tab and press "Check Now". When I went to the Adobe website the box that should show me my current version was blank with a red cross in the top left hand corner. There was also a box at the bottom of the page with " This website wants to install the following add-on: 'Adobe Flash Player' from Adobe Sytems Incorporated'. install. When I installed it the video now plays, but when I reboot my computer I get the same problem again untill I install the flash player?

I'd run a full antimalware scan using your antivirus suite of choice. Then I'd run a couple of on-demand scanners just to verify the computer is clean. (No antimalware is 100% effective 100% of the time. If there was such a thing we'd all be using it.) Some of the recommended products (all have free versions) are: Malwarebytes | Hitman Pro | ESET | HouseCall | Superantispyware.

Just to make sure you used the correct Adobe Flash uninstaller, did you get it from this site and did you use the 64-bit version (based on your system specs)?

Try running the uninstaller at least two times, also following the instructions in paragraph 3.3.a., and reboot in between each run. Due to all of the Flash downloads you've done recently one pass with the uninstaller may not be removing all of the leftover bits and pieces. Then try reinstalling from here (I'd save the installer to desktop and temporarily turn off any antimalware software prior to installing):

Don't forget to uncheck any optional "stuff" you don't want and to enable antimalware products once install has completed.

If your system is clean, is it possible someone else has access to your PC and they are removing it?

is your windows fully up to date with your Microsoft updates ?

Hi, Thanks for all your replies but I still have the problem. I have ran a couple of antimalware scanners, uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times using the correct versions from Adobe and my windows is fully up to date with Microsoft updates.
After googling and trying various fixes, there are a couple of things I have noted. If I logon as Administrator Adobe Flash works okay, also when I logon normally If I open Flash Player Settings Manager thro the Control Panel and go to Advanced the three settings for Updates are dimmed with "Notify me when updates are available ticked". If I then hit Check Now at the side of ActiveX version and Plug-in Version which both say 11.2.202.235, I go to the adobe site and get asked to install Adobe Flash Player. But if I hit change update settings it changes to "Install updates automatically when available (recommended)", and If I then hit check now it goes to the adobe site it tells me the latest version is installed. Flash Player then works untill I close down IE, but when I reopen it I have the same problem again.

You could try a full IE reset: Tools/Internet Options/ Reset (including personal settings). That will remove all add-ons in addition to resetting everyting, so you will have to go to Adobe to reinstall Flash.

Check the "Startup" tab of msconfig. You can open msconfig by typing that name in the Start Search box and click on the "msconfig.exe" item at the top of the list. Click on the "Startup" tab and use the "Disable All" button followed by "Apply" and "OK" A popup will ask if you want to restart, so close open windows and click "restart". Now install Flash Player again if it's not already installed. My theory is that perhaps one of the startup items was uninstalling Flash upon startup. If that's the case, with all startup items disabled, you should be able to repeatedly reboot without loosing Flash again. If that is indeed the case, look carefully at the list of startup items to see which one might be doing the uninstall.
