Solved Frequent BSOD

The trouble is with safe mode, theres nothing much you can do or see properly and it may take 2 hours of browsing to reproduce the problem even in normal mode. I'm working outside all day today so cant do much.
There are dozens odff errors in event viewer, Vss, Kermnel event tracing, service control manager, print service, .net runtimwe, wmi.

Hi Maverick,

The reason i ask you to run in safe-mode, is to determine if its hardware related, you have re-installed your system, and are still having issues. If your computer screen still goes fuzzy and then reboots in safemode, you will see that it has rebooted.

One other thing is:

Could be a problem with the Catalyst control manager also, i have seen a lot of problems with it (even tho you just installed it ), uninstall using this guide:

GPU-57: How to uninstall pre-existing graphics card drivers from a Microsoft Windows based system

Hope this helps

Dave

Hi,

The driver package you installed contained these drivers and Catalyst Control Center:

Display Driver
OpenCL(tm) Driver
AMD Integrated Driver
Catalyst Control Center

AMD Catalyst

You just need to unistall (dont reinstall) the Catalyst Control Center as shown im my previous post:

Reboot into normal mode and see if issue remains, (you can re-install the Catalyst Control Center if issue remains), then try safe mode option if that doesnt correct the problem.

Also if you have Catalyst Install Manager, uninstall that also.
Cheers

Dave

Is there any reason why you think the Catalyst Control Centre is causing the problem?

Hi Maverick,

Its a known problem that ive seen quite a bit (not saying its yours), but it was just to eliminate that from our enquiries (I sound like a police officer there:o). This is just one example:

http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/11376-ati-catalyst-control-center-crashes-windows-7-a.html

There are many many others, so it would make sense to uninstall and try that.

Have you run the computer in Safe-mode as i suggested? This i believe is a very impotant step in determining your issue?

Cheers

Let me know what you have tried so far?

If I run it in safe mode I won't be able to use it (intensively) and hence produce the crash. It never crashes when left alkone for hours on end.

I have just tried this:
  1. Click on Start
  2. Open the Control Panel
  3. Select Programs and Features
  4. Select ATI Catalyst Install Manager
  5. Click on Change
and ATI Catalyst Install Manager isn't there (which is kinda what I was expecting as I often find things that should be installed aren't there)

Hi,

Did you uninstall CCC (Catalyst control centre)?
Does the screen problem still remain?

You could try:
Safe Mode with Networking - This option loads the same processes as Safe Mode but also includes those that allow the networking functions in Windows 7 to work. You should choose this option if you think you may need to access the Internet or your local network while troubleshooting in Safe Mode.

and run that until it crashes (or not)

Uninstall the catalyst manager also :)

Hope this helps

cheers

No problem, I have asked for some assistance on this as i am running out of ideas.
Im starting to lean towards Graphics Card hardware issues.

Just a thought:

Go to Start> computer > at the top click System properties, in the left pane click Device manager and tell me if everything looks ok in there, no yellow exclimation marks etc

cheers

Im starting to lean towards Graphics Card hardware issues
or the display itself.
Go to:

Start> computer > at the top click System properties, in the left pane click Device manager.

Under display select your card, right click and disable, reboot your computer in normal mode.
Now see if the problem exsits and let me know?

Also please check your ATI Radeon HD 5450 card is seated properly and all cables, connectors are secure.
cheers

Yes had already done the first part of this. So PC works without the CCC - what does it do then?

Hi,

Sorry, not following,

Done first part?
Start> computer > at the top click System properties, in the left pane click Device manager.

Under display select your card, right click and disable, reboot your computer in normal mode.
Now see if the problem exsits and let me know?

I assume you mean that? :)

So is your Pc working fine without the CCC installed? Issues have disappeared or do you still have "fuzzy" problems?

ATI CCc is a software package that gives you more control over your ATI video card.
Catalyst Control would come in handy if your a graphics artist that needs to match colors or
tweak video output etc or gamer.
For the average user, it's rather useless and a lot of overhead.

Thanks

All looking good - 24 hours with no crash as opposed to say a dozen times a day before so looks like we're sorted! Many thanks for your help.
