Hi. I recently bought windows 7 and installed the 32-bit software. i then discovered that i also had the 64-bit disc. I tryed to install the 64-bit software and got this message: http://i45.tinypic.com/2dqvk2g.png
So i then went onto installing the 32-bit software again but choosing the 'custom [advanced]' option this time like the message said. once this was complete i tried to run the 64-bit software again and got the same message. Can anyone tell me what to do next?

32-bit Windows can only handle 32-bit software.
64-bit Windows can handle 32-bit and 64-bit software.

If you wish to have 64-bit Windows then you must install it first. 32-bit Windows cannot upgrade to 64-bit.

Welcome to the Seven Forums!

You cannot "upgrade" from 32-bit to 64-bit. You have to completely reinstall the OS by booting from the 64-bit disc.

If you have any personal data/programs installed, they will need to be backed up and reinstalled, as you will end up with a clean slate.

That's one way of wording it. You need to reinstall Windows by booting from the 64-bit disc.

Boot from 64 bit dvd format drive, install 64bit done. Make sure there is not data that you need you are going to loose everything on the drive

When you boot from the win 7 dvd it will give you the option to format and install.

When i put in the 64-bit disc i get this message: http://i45.tinypic.com/2dqvk2g.png

You need to actually START the computer using this disc. Usually you can achieve this simply by restarting the computer with the disc in the drive. If you do that, you should get a message before Windows starts that says "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD..." When you see that message, press any key on your keyboard to boot from the Win 7 disc.

As has been stated numerous times on these Forums, the only way to go from 32-bit to 64-bit (or vice-versa) is by means of a clean install. This means restarting your system with the DVD in the drive and booting from it.
