So sometimes my gadgets go on top and won't go back under until I restart. I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this. It's on one of my 7229 x64 machines. I'm not going to do anything about it until I install RTM, it's not a big enough issue to move the machine to 7264 and then install RTM next week (hopefully it's released). I'm not sure if it has to do with hibernating, or with full screened games... I dunno, just thought I'd rant about it for a sec...

Hmm, interesting. A pretty easy thing you could do without having to reinstall anything is to turn off the gadgets platform in Turn Windows Features On and Off in Program and Features. Restart and let it configure for a bit, then go back and enable it. Might clear the problem, might not.

I never used Show on top before, but now am starting to b/c of the Twitter client I found for the Sidebar. Problem is, sometimes it forgets it is on top (thanks in part to Fx - Always on top and Fx never play nicely....)

This is a repeating problem for me. I tend to run many programs at once while I am doing assignments. IE: multiple browser windows (with multiple tabs), torrents, multiple acrobat pro windows with journal articles, itunes, win explorer and outlook. The gadjets seem to eventually migrate to always on top. Thanks for the desktop-> View -> gadgets fix, worked a treat! (for the time being).
P.S. I love Win 7, much faster and easier to navigate many open programs at the same time!

A trial RTM ie not RC Beta, However testing a Win 7 Full Retail Ultimate has shown this is not relevant as the issue for me now appears to be ONLY when a web page is full screen, When show desktop is used completely and then when the page is returned to view the gadgets appear on top every time.

The way around this is to drag a web page to fit full screen and use that, as opposed to clicking the full screen window in the top right hand corner !

Overall it has to be one of the best roll-outs ever for MS a great product very few issues very pleased :D

just for clarification, Retail == RTM. Secondly, Can you give me more clear steps to reproduce it? Be very specific of each step and which browser you are using, which gadgets you have up etc.

RTM - Release to manufacturing.

If you have a FULL web page open (maximised) then click show desktop then click ie8 icon on taskbar to bring it back the gadgets are on top every time - no matter what gadgets I use.

If a slightly minimised web page is used as above its fine no issues at all.

Yes, I'm aware what RTM stands for. And they stamped those same RTM ISO's on the Retail DVD's. Hence the Retail is the exact same as the RTM.

Unfortunately I'm not able to reproduce the issue with your steps provided. It sounds like the weird thing that happened to me when my gadgets stayed on top. Did you try doing what Airbot recommended?

Yes sorry I see what you mean RTM - crossed wires.

Yes I did try Airbots idea and it did work but came straight back next time show desktop was used, I might add this also happens with Outlook 2007 & Personalization window etc as well as IE8 my guess is any FULL page app/window is affected?

Strange but not the end of the world as a slightly minimised page is free of the issue. Also if you hover the mouse rather than click show desktop button (peek?) its fine on full page.

Edit - Switching OFF Aero themes also stops the issue from occuring on a full page.

Hey there !

I got the same problem the other day...

Here is a quicker way to fix:

Right-click on the desktop
Select View
Select Show Desktop Gadgets (they will disappear)

Repeat to make them appear again and the problem should be fixed !

This worked for me like perfectly!
