I used "Log on using clear text authentication."
The 2nd option is for active directory login which is domain client setup.
The 3rd option is for encryption. Not sure of it's implementation.

As I use Avast Mail Shield, to scan my mail, SSL must be turned OFF for it to work.
As I also use Outpost FW Pro, I don't get a connection unless I shut it down and turn ON Windows FW.
I tried the other items in my red box. 2 & 3 failed.

Would it just be as easy to configure it for IMAP rather than POP?

IMAP also uses SMTP and gives the same error on trying it.

Gmail POP/IMAP & SMTP requires SSL/TLS so if you aint got it setup in your client then you are never going to connect.

If any one reading this thread uses Avast, Outpost FW & WLM with an account requiring SSL try this:-
1 open WLM Account Propertes Advanced tab & disable both SSL. Close WLM.
2 Set Avast Mail Shield to scan ALL.
3 reopen WLM and wait till the error message appears. Now send a test Email, (might work/might not). Watch the Out Box.
4 Close WLM, then Shut Down Outpost FW and enable Windows FW
5 Now WLM does work.
