Grub rescue error

there was windows 7 home basic on my vaio laptop. i had install ubantu on the same hard disc.
but when i installed the ubantu on my lapi first time...lapi goes shut down and installation get cancelled..i again tried to install ubantu on my lapi on the same hard disk of window but in another partion except C....then that installation get complete and it gives a dialog box which shows that your installation is complete, now restart your computer

then i had restarted my lapi and i got erreor of grub rescue.....now i don't have access neither to windows 7 nor to ubantu
i have very important data in my lapi so don't want to format my lapi and i want to recover my data...so please anybody tell me how to remove this error and come out of this error....so that i can access my windows as well as ubantu...and also i don't lose my data.....plese help me

You have a win7 install DVD or win7 system repair disc? If so: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html

Only the MBR has to be replaced which will be done automatically by "startup repair".
