I only have one question about the thread, to SIW2: What is the efficacy of running Data Recovery Software before doing the PW undelete? Does having PW show the Partitions intact and able to see the data not enough to trust running it, and if one does then run it does it add risks to data loss that makes doing Data Recovery first safer? I am just a bit unclear on this.

All said and done, it will still remain a mystery why the HDD wanted to be initialised. If you had just taken it out of the old system and put it onto another system, it should have straight away worked. How did it lose the MBR code and the partition information?

.... I'm probably leaning towards a crappy dock, and my inexperience......... .

It is good enough for me. But then it is not my data at stake. There are never any guarantees.

If the op has vital stuff, might as well have a go first with data recovery software.
