Solved Hard drive 4% health on HDD sentinel

Recently my computer has been having blue screen and reported problems about missing bootmgrs and such, this was when windows was on my 150gb hard drive.

So i assumed the drive must be failing and have now installed windows 7 on my 1tb Seagate hard drive.

The blue screens have gone, but every now and again my computer freezes completely up and i have to restart

(The old 150gb hard drive is still connected but i only use that for random storage, nothing important runs off it, i have tried unplugging it and just using the 1tb with windows on, but it tells me to insert a bootable media when i startup)

Anyway i ran HDD sentinel, my 1tb drive has 100% health however my 150gb has 4%


There are 2367 bad sectors on the disk surface. The contents of these sectors were moved to the spare area.
The drive found 15079 bad sectors during its self test.
There are 15079 weak sectors found on the disk surface. They may be remapped any time in the later use of the disk.
3679 errors occured during data transfer. This may indicate problem of the device or with data/power cables. It is recommended to examine and replace the cables if possible.
At this point, warranty replacement of the disk is not yet possible, only if the health drops further.
It is recommended to examine the log of the disk regularly. All new problems found will be logged there.
It is recommended to backup immediately to prevent data loss.


Any ideas on how to stop this random freezing, and what course of action to take from here

Since you can't boot unless the 150 GB drive is plugged in, I'd guess your boot files are on the 150 GB drive, rather than on the 1 TB drive.

I'd begin looking to replace the small drive and concentrate on moving boot files to the 1 TB Seagate so your PC can boot without the small drive.

I thought that too, How would i move the bootfiles over to the 1tb seagate?

I've never done it.

I think the procedure is to mark the 1 TB drive as "active" in Windows Disk Management and then run Startup Repair at least 3 times.

But I stand to be corrected on that and you should hope others comment on the procedure in this thread.

Physically disconnect the 160 HD & do not reconnect

Make the Windows 7 new HD, disk0 & first HD boot in BIOS.

This does not work, i have tried the startup repair about 10 times and it has said it fixed a problem with the partition table, however the error of (Please insert boot media) still comes up.

I have tried partitioning my 1tb to a 50gb partition and installing windows on it with my 150gb faulty hard drive unplugged

But windows says cannot find a partition to install windows on or something even though it looked like this

< C drive 1tb System >
< O Drive 50gb Logical>

(I do not want to have to format the 1tb so i tried this work around which is giving me the above error)

Can you post a picture of Disk Management?

What partition is marked as Active?

Just fitted a new PSU also, Last one give up last night and blew as i was playing a game. Possibly the reason for my hard drive now being on 4% health?

But yeah heres my disk management, basically the outcome i want is to have only that C drive and no others, and still be able to boot (boot files are on drive D partition by the looks of it)

I'm not an expert on this, but I see that you have 2 partitions marked active.

I'm not sure Windows enjoys that.

I'd go into Diskpart from a command prompt, select that 58.59 GB partition (that has no drive letter) and mark it inactive.

Then see if you can boot without Disk 0 being connected. C appears to have boot files.

You may have to run System Repair again after marking that partition inactive.

I tried the inactive, solution but it did not work, same as before

Heres some more detail of what happens.

(Startup Repair Log)
System disk = device\harddisk0
Directory = c:\windows
autochk run = 0
root causes = 1
the partition table does not have a valid system partition
Repair partition table error code = 0x0
(I tried this 4 times)

I also tried bootrec /fixboot
which give me the error (Element not found)

Finally fixed this problem, heres what i did.

Minitool partition wizard, to turn the C drive active, and make it a primary partition

Used EasyBCD and used the options

(Create bootable external media)
Partition = C:\
Install BCD

(MBR Configuration options)
Install the windows vista/7 bootloader to the MBR
Write MBR
