Solved Hard Drive Clicking?

Given how finicky RAM can be without errors showing up, the fact that you received any errors at any time means you should send back the kit ASAP, especially since it is still covered by Amazon. Get a kit that is guaranteed for your board by Gigabyte and by the RAM manufacturer.

Glad to hear you were careful with static. I have an antistatic mat and antistatic wristband, so I appreciate your precautions. I usually give the static precautions warning because most people are not aware of how easy it is to damage components with static electricity and the fact that it does not have to be felt to cause damage.

Anyway, send the RAM back to Amazon for a refund and find something that is definitely compatible with the board.

Ok have sent a request to Amazon for a refund.

The problem i have is trying to find RAM that is compatible can i ask yet another favour please and thats to advise on which one to get?

I have checked Kingston and Crucial memory finder app and have found these 2 possibles.

Kingston Memory Search
http://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/KHX1600C9D3K2_8G.pdf

Memory upgrades from Crucial.com - Determine My Memory Needs
8GB Kit (4GBx2), 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 upgrades for Giga-Byte GA-G41MT-S2PT Motherboard, CT2782824 from Crucial.com

Is one manufacturer better then the other or doesn't it matter if they both say there compatible?

Ive also uploaded the pdf memory list from gigabytes website, i can see lots of 2gb but only 1 4gb but not sure if the ones on the list are the only ones to be compatible as the 2 links above say they guarantee then to work?

It does not matter as long as they say they are compatible; the only difference is the price as I have read from the gurus on here.

I would recommend going with the crucial since it is not designed for high end and less likely to cause problems with an older board/processor.

Ok that's good to know :)

Now i have new hard drive on its way and i'll order the RAM as well tomorrow, man this computer stuff can get expensive and frustrating lol

many thanks again i really appreciate the help, if i could add any more rep to you i would but it think its limited to threads, but i'll see if i can go to an older post and give it that way, its a small measure i know but i really do appreciate the help you've given me :)

You may want to hold off on the RAM. You are trying to get high density RAM again (8GB is higher density than 4GB as an example), so you are still running the same risk as before.

If i send this one back then im going to need new, but do you think its because im choosing 8GB rather then 4GB or just the type im going for.
Both say there for this board but like you say i could be running the same risk?

The warning you received before was about the density of the modules. What RAM configuration did you have in your system before you tried upgrading?

You could try the 2x4GB from Crucial. I think you would have better luck with it than the Kingston since it is not high end. It's up to you.

You could also contact Crucial and ask their representatives if they think it would work with your board.

Hmm ok I'll give them a call otherwise I wonder if I'm just better off sticking with 2x2GB instead then, if I do should I go for something better then Crucial if there stuff isn't that high end?

I wasn't saying all of Crucial's modules were not high end. The Kingston modules you chose were on the high end (they were designed for gaming and high performance and advertised that way). I was suggesting the Crucial modules you chose over the Kingston modules you chose because the Crucial modules were not being advertised as high end and were likely better suited for your board and processor.

Kingston: High Performance Memory for Gamers and PC Enthusists (1600 MHz [may be too fast for your CPU])
Crucial: Regular 1333 MHz RAM.

It should work, but the fact that one of their support members warned you it may not work is an indication that it is not guaranteed to be compatible. Also, we do not know if it would have worked despite the warning because one of the modules was likely damaged before you obtained it.

My advice is: see what Crucial says about the RAM you were looking at yesterday. Maybe they will guarantee it will work.

I have just got off the phone with technical support from gigabyte and he hadn't heard of any problems with high density modules but he said like you to go for the Crucial RAM as it's 1333Mhz and the Kingston is DDR3-1600 and my board supports 1333/1066/800 MHz FSB.
I think the fact im running the board now on the one working stick and alls well probably indicates it is ok but i just had the bad RAM and if it wasn't faulty i wouldn't of thought twice about thinking it wasnt compatible.

I will phone Crucial now and see what they say but im leaning more towards that make anyway now :)

**EDIT**
Just phoned Crucial and they said they guarantee it is compatible with my board, so i guess i'll be buying that one :)

Quick update.

Got the new Hard Drive and RAM installed, and after a clean install i ran memtest to check and alls working fine with no errors :D

At the moment i just have the new hard drive connected as i wanted to instal Win7 with nothing else connected.
The other hard drive had my OS installed on it so do i need to format that parttion to get get rid after i re-connect it of it or is there something else i should do?
