Hard drive doesn't wake up after hibernation

When I restart my computer after it has been hibernating (usually overnight as it's left on 24/7), it goes to the welcome screen and just hangs. The HD light is inactive making me believe that the HD is not waking up and causing this problem.

Any ideas anyone ?

hi and welcome how long has this been occurring? have you ran a disc check, defrag lately see the pics.

It seems to be an intermittent problem as I just came in from work and woke the computer and it restarted fine. Oh and it was in hybrid sleep mode (hibernate is disabled).

This is a clean install of Win 7 done 2 weeks ago when I built my computer, although the HDD's came out of my old machine). As it appears to be a common problem I will see how it goes over the next couple of weeks.

Turning off sleep and hibernate functions is not a solution as you are disabling power saving modes, and as my machine is on 24/7 I could do with saving power when it is not in use.
