Not sure how I got here, however drive shows in Disk Management as shown in attached snip. No media.

Am able to only change drive letter, not format. The drive does not show in Explorer or WinDirStat.

Do you have the options available to change the internal SATA connection to another port?

Windows is seeing that something is plugged in. It could be a problem with the adaptor or the drive. Does the drive have an external power supply? Is it turned on? Did you loose power while drive was in use? Does it work on another PC?

Hi Mat6370,

1. Furnish full details of the drive in question. Manufacturer/Model - P/N/capacity. Please read the label on the drive and furnish full and correct details

2. Please remove all other USB drives (HDDs as well as Flash drives)/USB connected printers/ any external card readers, USB hubs etc., plug in only your problem drive and post a full screenshot of Windows Disk Management showing the Disk list and disk map hiding the Action Pane and Console tree.

Read this How to before you post the screenshot : http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/274797-disk-management-post-screen-capture-image.html

With insufficient information provided you are not likely to get any meaningful help.

Hmmm...... Having posted your problem and getting many heads work on it, you are also obliged to let us know how it got resolved. Only that will help us help others who come reporting the same problem.

On a lighter note, I have seen another OP reporting the same problem and then suddenly he realised that his Brother Printer had a card reader and he had mistaken that to be his HDD in the Windows Disk Management. And so I have since then included USB connected printers in the list of USB devices to be disconnected before putting up the screenshot.:)

Hello

Drive -Seagate expansion desktop model SRDOOF2. PN 1D7AD6-500 2 TB

Blow me, went to disk management and the drive was found. I think that it must have been activated when I replugged it in having removed it to read the above.

It looks as though problem solved. Many thanks to you all, a great service.
