Hello guys,

I have a simple question and please forgive me if this has been answered before. I have a 2TB HDD (internal) and a 1TB HDD (external). My data are on the internal one, and yesterday I have copied all the data to my external HDD for backup (approx 330GB).

What I am asking is there a way to automatically sync all the changes made to the internal HDD to the external one when I plug it in? For example.

  • Day 1: I copy the data [HDD A = HDD B]
  • Day 2: I add a folder to HDD A
  • Day 3: I plug in HDD B, automatically the folder that has been added to HDD A is copied to HDD B and so on (even if a folder has been deleted on HDD A, it will be deleted on HDD B)

Hope I was clear in my question and thank you in advance for you reply.

SyncBack free is supposed to do this, according to a thread in another forum. I have it bookmarked but haven't actually tried it yet. If you do decide to try it, let us know how it works out.

M$ also has SyncToy, which is similar to SyncBack, but, according to the aforementioned thread, isn't as good as SyncBack.

Alright so, I just downloaded the software you provided and usage was pretty simple. I have set up both HDD to sync whenever changes are made, and seems to be working. Right now it is copying all files from internal HDD to external HDD.

Sorry for the late reply, but I was experiencing issues with my internet connection.
I thank you again.

I use Microsoft's Synctoy to sync all of my data and images to several external and internal backup disks. It works well. It is really important to me for my photography to have something that works reliably. I have it sync to an internal disk every night at 3am. There is a trick to setting this scheduled sync up. Let me know if you are interested and I can tell you how to set it up.

Thank you. However syncBack is working well right now. No problems what so ever, I think I will stick with it for the time being since it's doing what its supposed to do.

Thank you again!

Could you tell us how you got Syncback working? I studied the website, their tutorials, etc. over the weekend and couldn't make much sense of any of it, other than I would need one of the paid versions to get the equivalent of a clone. For now, I'm sticking with cloning.

Not really, I just downloaded the free version on yheir website. If I recall correctly you have to go tothe downloads section, and from there you will see several links, choose SyncBack.

In regards to how do you use it, upon installation there is a help the first time youstart using the software, it is helpfull and I got it working straight away.
