Hello, thanks in advance for your help.

I've had Win 7 installed and running for over 6 months now on a PC. This morning I awoke to find it at a System Restore page I've never seen before. It give me 2 options of trying to find the problem automatically (which gets nowhere) or manually. Then it allows me to try and perform a System Recovery through a backup, but that gives another error message. I've tried all the options that the screen gives me, to no avail. With one exception - it let's me choose the OS I am trying to boot, but there is nothing in the list to choose from. There is an option to "Load Drivers" which takes me to the System32 folder to select a driver(s). I don't know what to choose here?

I have no idea what caused this, I've installed no new hardware componets nor software that I can think of... It worked last night before going to sleep, and this morning nothing. I have had no problems in 6 months whatsoever, and the machine runs 24/7.

Thanks!

Can you boot into safe mode (F8)?

Do you have a backup to restore from if you can reach it?

Do you have a win 7 dvd to do a repair install?

In a somewhat similar situation, it was my harddrive that went bad. If all else fails, test it.

Boot the Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD, accept any offered repair. If this fails, boot back into Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots.

Report back.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html

I'll try the DVD tonight. I get the Recovery Tools menu without the DVD, but it comes up with no repair suggestions, and doesn't allow me to restore to a previous point.

I'll try a few of the suggestions above tonight, and report back to you all tomorrow. Thanks again for all of the quick support.

So when I got home last night and fired up the PC, it booted just fine... It went through a few updates, and proceeded to log in... I restarted 4 times in the morning, and nothing. Then left it shut down all day until I came home, at which point it worked...

The only thing I can think of is that something must have occured overnight while updates were installing automatically (power surge or something?) and the system was able to recover itself somehow?

Thanks all.
