Help with install & build

The HD's are probably too BIG to be formattted by DOS. Would have to use FDISK possibly to create a small DOS partion, then see if it will format ? I don't think you have 2 BAD HD's.

I think gregrocker's idea of installing your HD on another computer first, then trying to install win7. If it installs, move back to your custom Biostar MB & see if it will boot.

Those setup files need to be extracted and then copied over to stick/CD to be detected and picked up by Installer. Note location they are extracted to.
The setup files do not allow me to extract the drivers... The only option I have is to install. I do not want to accidentally hose the laptop!

Thats exactly what I had to do (took forever..)

I will see if I can install 7 on a work machine with my HDD and then swap it into my machine tomorrow.

Again, I appreciate all the help/advice.

@TJ1376 is your drive a 2TB drive? Try partitioning the drive into 2 1TB partitions and then doing the Windows 7 install.

I had a weird issue with a 2TB drive a while back. I broke it up into 3 partitions. 100meg (Windows 7), 250GB and 1.3TB for Data. C: Is 250GB and 1.3TB is D: all worked fine after that.

Let us know.

WindowsStar, I believe in the earlier posts he had the 500gb HD divided up into 5 partitions for the win7 install.

I just got a Hitachi 2tb SATA HD for a new install, I guess I need to test it shortly to look for this type of problem with it

Doc please let us know how it goes, very interested in this. I want to put 5 2TB SATA drives in my Windows 2008 R2 server but while I was pre-trying that Windows 2008 R2 refused to see the full space correctly. I am worried there is an issue with the Windows 7/2008 R2 code in relation to 2TB SATA drives. Seems to work great on SAS or SCSI.

We probably should start a new Thread on this. Sorry for posting here.

Issue appears to be resolved.

Dont laugh at me...

It would appear that a bad SATA cable caused the issue with the HD. I will post more and clean this up a bit and make the first post reflect the root cause, but I thought I would let you all know.

I took the HD to our resident Win 7 guru at work and he said installing Win 7 on our machine and then taking it to my machine would not work.

So, since I already had the HD out, I figured I would rule out the SATA cable. Swapped a new SATA cable in and poof, the machine boots right into Win 7.

Anyone who has had a bad cable before is not laughing. I am nodding my head up and down" yep been there done that", Thanks for sharing your fix with us. Enjoy the install of 7..

Good news.

I think we need to add "swap out to test all cables" to somewhere near the top of the troubleshooting list. It previously was, but seems to have slipped out of our arsenal.

Did your Guru at work say why installing Win7 to your HD in another computer won't work? We who have tested it from earliest beta know it does work surprisingly often.

ArrGGH ! I have had my share of Bad IDE cables & broken IDE plastic connectors.
But since seeing the molde SATA cables, never really gave them much thought for being Bad :o Well at least we all have learned a valuable exeprience over this one.
From now on always we need to double test All Cables with extra ones just in case!

Thanks for your never ending dedication in another Win7 Experiment :geek:

Enjoy Windows 7 and Make it A Good One ;)
