Hey!

I have windows 7 64bit running on my desktop PC. I have Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 @2.34GHZ Processor, 4 GB Ram, Asus P5QPL-AM motherboard and WDC WD32000AAKS-00L9A0 ATA device 320GB HDD.

I am using this system since last one year or so, first i had Windows XP installed on it, and after that i started using Windows 7 64bit since last 3 months. I faced no problem in those 3 months while using Windows 7 64bit on my PC. But since last week, i am facing a strange problem.

While using my PC, its CPU's HDD light always blinks, but at times (since last week) suddenly it becomes static. I checked my task manager, my CPU and Ram usage both are very low. But my Disk Usage (at that time) is 100%. At that time, for some seconds all programs running on my PC Freezes down. I can move my mouse, but programs running are not responding for like 5 seconds. After that disk activity automatically becomes normal for some time everything starts working like alright. But after some time (some minutes) disk activity shoots up again.

At the time of high disk activity, mostly i am browsing internet on Chrome and no other program usually is running at that time.

I am thankful to you guys for giving us a platform to discuss such problems here, please help me out here.

The first thing I would do is switch to another web browser to see if that's the issue. Another question would be about real-time anti-virus software that was running. Lastly would be the hard drive itself. It could be the hard drive is failing and is attempting to recalibrate itself. Having had terrible luck with WD drives, I might check that first after all.

Bye.

If the high cpu usage is indeed caused by chrome, try a couple of things:

1) Click the Tools menu.
Select Options.
Click the Personal Stuff tab
Click Clear browsing data.
Select the checkboxes for the types of information you wish to remove.
Use the "Clear data from this period" menu to select the amount of data you want to delete.
Click Clear Browsing Data.

Also, empty the chrome cache. Navigate to the Chrome cache (C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data) and delete everything except the folders and the contents of Google Gears.

2) Disable the "Enable phishing and malware protection" option under the Security section of the "Under the Hood" tab.

Bundle of thanks guys for your help ... Yea, it look like Chrome was behind the reason why i was getting high disk activity. As suggested by Crunchy Doodle, i tried firefox and so far no "high disk activity" problem.

Thanks Bill2 and dood, i will try all the things you guys mentioned.

Once again Thanks a lot. :)
