really don't see the added features are worth the added cost.

Home Premium for me. It's just that Pro doesn't have much more than Home Premium. What for waste so much more money on nothing worth the price?

x32 and x64 are in the DVD. No separate purchase necessary.

While I'd like Ultimate, it would mostly be a vanity thing. And were I buying Professional at retail, the small additional charge for Ultimate would be a no-brainer. However, with Professional at half price against Ultimate at full price, that, too, is a no brainer.

Currently, I remote into several family members' PCs using Remote Desktop (they all have XP Pro). It appears that Home Premium does not have that ability.

Ergo, I'll be buying 3 copies of Professional instead of 2 Home Premiums and 1 Professional. At least it's only $300 instead of $600 . . . .

First a question then the answer.
I wonder if there will be different levels of support for home vs pro versions. Not that support has ever been M$ strong suite.

If I had to buy it Pro or ultimate would be my choice.

I did pro. I'm not sure how many of my XP programs would run on Premium. For example Norton Save and Restore 2.0, Norton 9 Anti-Virus are most important to me. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I'm doing a clean install on a new build and want to create system images to network drives. I have to buy Pro for image on network drives. I can find $15 more in change under my couch cushions. I don't see why someone would buy Pro unless it's an upgrade.

It's my understanding I could not use an upgrade version on a new machine because you need a previous install disk to make it work. Someone told me I could but I don't see how.

No.

You need a separate license for each machine.

The forthcoming Family license allows 3 machines - it's more expensive, obviously - unless they do a special launch deal on that - you might be better getting 3 upgrades on the pre order deal.
