Homegroup. One computer will not show.

I have three computers connected to my wireless network. Two laptops and one desktop PC. After successfully connecting them all to the same homegroup, I found that although the two laptops can see each other and share files, neither can see the PC.

On the other hand, the PC can see both laptops and see their shared libraries, however when I double click any of the library icons, nothing happens.

I've been looking around for a fix, but have pretty much given up. I've made sure all homegroup sharing options are the same for each computer. I don't use any 3rd party firewall, and the Windows Firewall is disabled on all three computers. I made sure file and printer sharing was enable on the PC. I've left and rejoined the homegroup. All homegroup services are running, as far as I know (HomeGroup Listener, HomeGroup Provider, and Peer Networking Grouping. I think that was somehow related.)

Any ideas? I'm going to make sure my PCs wireless adapter has the newest drivers right now, but I'm not very hopeful.

What OS are you running on your desktop pc?

If windows Vista on your desktop PC, try going on Network and Sharing center
then make sure network discovery ,File sharing , Public folder sharing, Media sharing,Printer sharing is on. Make sure Password sharing is off.

If you are running windows 7 go on Network and Sharing center then go on Change advance sharing settings. Make sure Network discovery,File and printer sharing, Public folder sharing, Media streaming are ON. Make sure password protected sharing is off.

Are all of your networked machines using Windows 7?

Which A/V software do you have installed?

Just about any A/V software can cause these types of problems to occur, yes even when they don't use a firewall. You sometimes will need to uninstall your A/V software completely before the problem goes away.

You should definately not need to disable the Windows firewall.

You should start by going down this Homegroup trouble shooting guide and make sure all settings are correct.

Forgot to mention all computers are running Windows 7 and using Avast! anti-virus. I'll try disabling it.

As for ritesh's idea, I went through all the settings and everything looks good.

EDIT: I went through everything on the troubleshooting guide and all the settings looked good. I disabled the anti-virus for each computer and restarted them. Still no good. I haven't tried uninstalling the anti-virus yet, but I'll get on that.

EDIT#2: Nah, uninstalling the AV didn't help. Poop.

if none of that works,open Device Manager and under Network Adapters,look for Microsoft Toredo Tunneling Adapter,and see if there's a yellow triangle by it.You may have to use View/Show hidden devices.If so,you're probably screwed for Homegroup,as this controls the IPv6 traffic utilized by the Homegroup network.Both of my 7's have this affliction for which I've found no solution for several months-neither here,M$ or any other Tech Blog I read.I can't even download it from my manufacture's website without an error generation.Seems my ISP has to "force the DNS" for the IPv6 protocol for the download to be successful, but will not do so as I'm a "residential" customer,not a "Business" account.I sincerely hope this isn't your problem.

Alright, well, my Teredo Tunneling Psuedo-Interface (That's fun to say) seems to be working fine. I really appreciate all the different ideas you guys have given, but I think I'm about ready to give up.

In order for the Homegroup PC to show up you need to share some of the Library folders. This can be done using the permission settings. You need to add "Everyone" to the permission list. Other than that the second link goes over just about every other problem you might be having with Homegroups.

I just tried sharing the libraries and the Public folder under users, and for both I got the message "This folder can't be shared."

So it seems like I have zero folders being shared.

I would make a new network and use the work network I have seen several posts as to where this has worked.

I would spend some more time on the previous links I posted. Homegroups works absolutely perfectly I can assure you. If only one machine isn't showing than no doubt there is another A/V software involved here which has been overlooked.

Alright. Well, I'll go through all the steps again, and I'll try setting up a new network. Thanks a lot guys. I'll let you know if anything works.

Hello: Don't really know how old this post that I am replying to is, but I found it while searching for a similar problem here in late 2014 - two Windows 7 computers; one could see the other, but not vice versa. What's more, the 'hidden' computer couldn't even see itself: Under NETWORK within Windows Explorer, it would appear, but any attempt to access folders under its name caused the dreaded "0x80070035 Network Path not found" error. "Network path"? There's no Network path! It is right there!! Three months of wandering around in chat rooms and forums, trying everything suggested, led to no joy. Then I discovered a four-and-a-half year old post within the Microsoft Community which suggested there might be a problem with the TCP/IP stack overflow. I have no idea what that is, but I followed the suggestions, and my computers are now both out in the open.


So if like me you have tried everything and are still getting that error, then try this:


How to Reinstall and reset TCP/IP for Win 7 (32 and 64):
1) Click on the Start button
2) Go to Accessories
3) Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator
4) Type netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt in the Command Prompt window, and press the Enter key.
5) Type winsock reset in the Command Prompt window, and then press the Enter key.
6) Restart the computer.
There will be a log with the changes in c:\resetlog.txt

Actually, I did not find that "Command Prompt" under Accessories on my machine (Win 7 Pro 64). So I typed those commands one after another right in the Search box under Start. Worked a treat. There was a momentary flicker after each command, no other indication that anything had been done. But after the re-start, it works, so I'm happy!
