you might want to try uninstalling kies as well and let windows get the drivers off the net. and see if your phone shows up as a drive.

Ok update I went to that shop and they set the phone for Blu tooth and I spent over two hours last night trying to get the wretched thing to hook up. I eventually got some sort of connection but it only wants to send data from my computer to the phone and not the way round I want it to work.

I shall uninstall the Kies as it seems to be a load of rubbish that is just cluttering up the machine

If it doesn't work after that then I shall just have to download pics from that micro card albeit so slow - it is really very annoying when they spout all sorts of good things about technology these days and one gets this nonsense.

The only time iv have found keys useful is to get drivers for download mode so I can unlock my bootloader or flash newer radios than Verizon will release in a year lol. Once it's done it's uninstalled. End of story. The program it self is also almost 6gb's in updates too. So uninstall kies, reboot, if phone doesn't work then find it in device Manger and uninstall it then reboot and try again and if nothing after that then idk lol.

You've established a working Bluetooth connection so half the battle is won.

Here are the Bluetooth settings on the PC that I send pictures to. When I send a picture to this PC, it automatically accepts the connection and the file transfer, no other interaction with the PC is necessary.

What exactly is happening when you try to send a picture to your PC? Do you get errors, PC ignores the incoming connection, something else?

Removing the micro SD card from my phone is no picnic; aside from removing the back, the battery has to come out, too. And then the micro SD is so tiny, plus I have to keep up with an adapter so that the card will fit in a standard SD slot.

If I remember correctly, it took a bit of doing to get the Bluetooth connection to work but once it's done, file transfers became painless.

Now this is what I get when I hit the Blu tooth icon - first the small left hand window then that one in the centre - hit on add and it only gives me an option to transfer from computer to phone - absolutely nothing the other way.
To where those settings you posted are on my machine I have no idea where to start.

It looks like you're using the Toshiba application for Bluetooth, I'm using the built-in Windows Bluetooth services.

Did you pair the phone with the PC? If not, then that will have to be done before anything else will work.

Do you have a Bluetooth icon in your system tray on the PC? If so, right-click it and then click on Show Devices to see if your phone is on the list. It may be greyed-out if there's not an active connection, but it should be on the list if the phone and PC have been paired. Also, right-clicking the Bluetooth icon in the System Tray is where you can find the settings (Open Settings) that I pictured above.

If you want to forego the whole Bluetooth thing, I can understand that. However, if you still want to give it a go then I'm more than willing to help even though my long-distance troubleshooting skills are lacking (I'm much better at troubleshooting when I can see what I'm working with).

Well, this reads like a collection of random thoughts (and it kinda is). Perhaps I'll go off and write a more coherent "guide" for resolving this issue.

Kent have turned on the machine this afternoon and the Blu tooth icon is missing so I don't know what is happening to be honest. I have no links to Blu tooth in Control Panel.

I have got the Toshiba one back now but still end up with what is in the pics. The small one shows for a couple of seconds and then that wireless one pops up.

I am running 8.1 in 7 style and don't know if that makes any difference but cannot see why it should.

As for pairing I have three devices paired my car, one called Mums phone whatever that is?? and Johns-PC on the phone itself nothing on the machine The phone in the car doesn't work anyway so maybe I have a dud phone??

John, are you sure you have Bluetooth enabled in bios and the drivers installed in the OS?

Steve I didn't know it would be in BIOS to be honest I shall have to get in there and see when I have a minute.

To be honest the whole thing is shambolic when it should just be a matter of turning the phone and computer on connecting with a cable or this wretched blu tooth and away one goes.

I agree John. I didn't have any problems with my Galaxy 4, once I used a better cable. As soon as I hooked it up, the computer recognized it and installed drivers. I guess it really isn't quite right as the computer sees it as a DVD drive. But it makes little difference, as I can still open it up and transfer what I want to back and forth.

Well have tried a different cable and tethered it paired it - whatever but it still will not show as an attached drive. So like the Telstra people in town said maybe something wrong with the phone itself. suppose this means I get another and possibly better phone.
It is all very frustrating as I can connect via Blu tooth in the car but this laptop no way.

Shall be at home tomorrow and may try the main machine if it doesn't work then it is just got to be the phone.
