Solved How can I fix my IE10 after that update from IE11

Not too long ago Gregrocker was so very kind and totally did a reinstall of my Windows7 Home Premium Edition 32-bit for me. It was a complete disaster and he had magical fingers and fixed my laptop so it felt like it was brand new again. I had my IE back of which I didn't have before and he set my laptop up for me so I wouldn't have any problems. And I was extremely grateful for everything that he helped me with.

Well I'm back again with problems once again with this stupid IE. I personally switched from my GoogleChrome on the words from Greg that it just wasn't as good as Microsoft. So I gave it a try and I've been using FireFox ever since then...I don't even go into IE ever...and the updates were set up for automatic...so I really didn't have to worry about that either or so I thought...BUT...I had to go into IE for work related stuff and when I went in there that's when I noticed everything looked all messed up. I don't even have a front page everything is white and over on the right it looks like a different language of which I have no idea which one...I tried to go into my windows updates to see what was installed and saw that IE11 was installed with a ton of other items as well...and reading in the Microsoft post about all this I hi-lited IE11 and uninstalled it and it took me back to IE10 but I still have all these problems that I don't know how to explain nor how to fix. So where do I go or how do I start fixing this in dummy mode:o
Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks
DoeZ

Hi Brink...

Sorry it took me a bit to get to you. I was trying to do that and take care of my grandson at the same time and unfortunately he won LOL. So while he was drinking his bottle I tried to pull up my IE and there's nothing there but a blank white page with the 2 tabs at the top now. I had an update that installed this morning it was from Nov 26, 2013 and I'm trying to remember what it was from I know it was Microsoft it had a KB something and the last 4 numbers were 7585 and I had to restart my laptop. But I really never went back to it because after that I had nothing on my desktop at all...ie...any of my icons or gadgets and that's when I started thinking I messed up again. But I had to power down with the button and waited a bit and pushed the button again to start it up walked away and when I came back my screen was black. Ya freak out!!! LOL I had changed some settings trying to help my laptop with its performance and connections it's been really bad lately and makes feel like a neighbor is using my wifi or something. But anyways as I was saying when I opened it there were just 2 tabs and nothing loaded. And I couldn't click on anything. Then I had to my grandson down to sleep so I'll try to post a pix tomorrow for you. Thanks

Brink I was reading thru all this last night...sounds like easiest way out of it...will it effect my Firefox settings at all? For ex...my add on...my bookmarks etc etc etc. Also will I lose any of my new files that I've downloaded since then...like Spyware or Malware stuff or CCleaner...and any of my personal items...will they all be safe as well? And once this is done do you suggest I go back to IE9 seeings as that one doesn't have as many problems or just stay with IE10 or what should I do? Thanks again for your help and I'm very sorry for bombarding you with all my questions.

Egads...see now I'm even more confused. It all started when it automatically updated itself to the IE11 and all those other zillion three thousand 2 million 4 hundred 75 updates that went with it lol. (with a lil exaggeration there) That's when I had no face to my IE and a different language and it was all a mess.

Hello DoeZ,

If you're not sure what updates installed you can see them in
Windows Update > View update history You can also remove updates from here by clicking on Installed Updates WUPSP05.PNG

Hi DavidW7ncus,

Thanks for all of that there...I do know how to get there and see all of that...I guess my problem would lie upon what's good or bad...what to keep or not to keep...I know I can get rid of my IE from here also right? But what happens to all of the updates that went with it? That's what I'm not understanding...because with the update came along a zillion other updates and if uninstall one of them what happens to the other zillion that went with it...(I hope I'm explaining things ok here...please let me know if you aren't understanding me lol)

Hi DoeZ,

I'm not a "Windows Update" (or any) guru.
So I don't want to advise you on what to do, and what might happen.
With your last question maybe this thread should be moved to the "Windows Updates & Activation" SF subforum?
Experts there might be able to better answer you.
Brink is an SF admin and on this thread, so I defer to his advice on this.

What I suggest is creating System Backup Images.
When you learn to use backup images, you can try anything you want, knowing you can recover if something goes wrong.

I always create a monthly backup image before Patch Tuesday updates.
On my test systems where I make changes, install new programs, try new things, ... I create an image as often as necessary, before "shooting myself in the foot" (again).

Two months ago MS issued an update for a "Windows Update Cleanup".
If you installed that update, and ran the "Windows Update Cleanup", I would guess this will make a difference in what you can/cannot uninstall...

I'm only showing updates from now til 10/10/2013 and I didn't see anything that looked like that "Windows Update Cleanup" that you mentioned. But I also use a program called "secunia" to scan my system once a week to make sure everything is updated and patched if needed. But are you telling me not to do what he suggested in the beginning with the reset?

DoeZ,

I added a link in David's post above to help better explain what "Windows Update Cleanup" is.

Resetting IE would be a good first step in troubleshooting it in your case.

Thanks so very much Brink...but as I said before I can only see my updates from now til 10/10/2013 so if it was before then I can't see it and wouldn't know about it. So can I just click the link and save it for future reference if need be?

fyi,

I've seen where the list shown in Windows Update History is blank or "short".
Some utility, program, update, ... whatever, wiped this info...
In those cases, I can still click on the "Installed Updates" that I hi-lighted in post #10 and see what is installed and can be removed...

Do you see more updates listed in the "Installed Updates" screen than you see in the "Windows Update History" screen?

It says 177 updates installed. Remember now it wasn't too long ago that the reinstall was done and I had a brand new laptop pretty much.

Can you post some screen prints of what you are seeing that Shawn asked for in post #2, and you said you would in post #3?
Other than that, I can't help further and apologize for butting in ...
;)
