How do I hide certain folders in Win 7 ? [SOLVED]

Hey

Basically what I would like to do is to HIDE (not delete) the following folders in my personal folder :

- Contacts
- Favorites
- Links
- Saved Games
- Searches

How would I go about doing that ? I want to keep my personal folder clean, without unnecessary folders that I never use anyway.

I tried right clicking, clicking on properties and checking Hide, but nothing happens.

Any ideas as to how I could go about accomplishing this task ?

If you right click on the folder then choose "Share With" then choose nobody, it will keep it from being seen on the network if thats what you mean. If you do it correctly you will end up with a little lock on the file which means it can't be seen by anyone on the network "hidden".

You can hide files and/or folders by setting the hidden attribute as you described. Even if I set to show hidden files and folders I still can not see the locked folder on the network. Once that file shows the lock it won't show up on the network. So the locked files stay hidden as they should which is good to know. I'm assuming that Jordon means hidden or unavailable on the network and not hidden from himself. :sarc:

actually it turns out that I was on the right track, after I checked the Hide Folder option, all what was required in order for it to take effect was a simple log off and log back on.

I don't even see a "hide folder" tab from properties, maybe you are talking about the security settings?

If you really want that file hidden on the network you need to right click and then choose "Share with" then choose nobody.

If that lock doesn't appear then file won't be completely hidden. Of course there are other ways to hide the folder either with user permissions or by choosing which files to share but it's not as secure.
