How To Boot From External HD

Are searched Help and support on PC. Cannot find what keys to hold when trying to boot from and external HD. Is there key or keys to hold that will show mutilple options to boot from on starting?

My attempts at using macrium, to clone to the 3rd partition of HD did not work i.e. the process erased all of my mac-mini cloned stuff on the 1st partition. After two tries with same result, decided best to get sperate external HD for my PC.

I seem to recall some years back that a PC and mac can cloned to same HD. I dunno but it didn't work for me so;

I found a used Western Digtial with USB ports but fear they might only be 1.0 and clone my PC via Macrium.

Didn't do exactly what I expected but at least it said it cloned successfully. So now, since I can't find info to tell me if Eeternal HD uses 2.0 or 1.0, I thought I would just try and boot from it, and as that is my hope, and will maybe have my answer to the port value.

So what keys do hold to get optional drives to boot from? Or does it work some othere way on a Toshiba PC?

Found Answer

thanks hammer, but I think I found the anwser after following a sequence of links from F7 search function.

ON starting I have when I see the Toshiba BIOS screen I select F12 and that sees any options for booting from.

I did that, and it showed my HDD and it said 2.0, which I know is neccesary for Macs to boot and presume same for my PC, however, even tho it showed my external HDD and 2.0, after I hit enter I go a blue screen with long error message, that there was problem with my booting process or whatever, and to HD disk scan or HD check via and I think it meant my C drive, but now that I think about it.

Any way I know the Macrium clone was successful and I did oepn teh HD to see what was on.

Showed four of five folder and the top one was movies, and then program files were in there somewhere and I forget the names of the other folders. Anyhow either Macrium is not truly cloning my PC, or the External does not truly have 2.0 USB but the BIOS did say that for the external HDD.

Still No Boot

I have external HDD and cloned my PC to it and I see same folders on my clone as I do on C drive;

moives
perf logs
program files
user files

but still I get the blue screen with long error message in white when booting from external drive, so,

not sure why cannot boot from the external drive. The BIOS states that HDD and off to right it states 2.0 USB(?).

Maybe I need to rung the diskcheck HD on the external drive instead of on my C drive?

Oh yeah, the ext. HDD has two volumes F and G tho using Macrium I could not figure out to get it to just have one volume. Also it cloned too what appears to be the 2nd volume and not the primary volume. In my Exlorer folder I see;
