how to change the color when windows 7 boots!

hi!

I am using windows 7 home basic service pack 1.I had changed the color when windows 7 loads to white color that is after i enter the password when windows is booting i had changed the color to white now i want it to be restored to black but i have forgotten how to do it if any one knows how to do it that will be great.

help would be appreciated.

Hello Mahesh and welcome to the forums

If you did it through modifying resources, then a SFC should do the trick:

SFC Scan

1. Open the start menu
2. In the search box, type cmd
3. Right click on cmd and select Run as administrator
4. In command prompt, type:
   
   sfc /scannow
   
   
5. Let it run and let me know if it finds any Integrity Violations

Thanks guys for the reply after a long wait.
Let me try to explain it,i had actually changed the settings in windows itself without using any third party software.
Okay this is how it goes
step 1.after i press the power on button a black screen with windows at the bottom of the screen comes up.
step 2.Then the screen turns black and the cursor changes from pointed to a blue circle meaning it is trying to load windows.
step 3.then i get a screen which asks me to enter the password.(i don't want to change that screen)
step 4.after i enter the password and press the enter button the screen again turns completely white(not all the time i get to see the screen only sometimes)this is what i want to change and i changed it long ago without using 3rd party software.I do not remember how but i changed it to white color.I do not know how i changed I used the existing windows settings or through Control panel or something else.
I don't remember which windows settings i changed and i did not use any 3rd party software.
step 5.then windows loads and i get to see the icons on the desktop and all the other programs loads like the windows desktop.

The thing i mentioned in step 4 is what i want to change.i did not use any 3rd party software.i changed some settings which told me that i could change the color.I changed it to white color. i am sure you guys know how to do it.i hope you are able to understand what i want.I guess it is the background color which i want to change when windows loads not the solid colors in appearance of the control panel

I did a sfc/scannow and it did not find any integrity violations.


i hope you guys can help me it is kind of frustrating.

Hi Mahesh,

When you mention that you enter a password, do you mean to log on? Or have you encrypted your hard drive?

After i enter the password the pointer turns busy and then when it is trying to load the desktop the color of the screen turns white.I have actually changed the color to white.I think the default color was black,i don't remember exactly and also i don't know how i changed the color to white.

That is where i need help.

Okay, I think I've found something. Can you hold the Windows Key and press R to show the Run dialogue box. In this, copy and paste the following command and press OK:

cmd /c REG QUERY "HKU\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Colors" /v Background > %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\RegQuery.txt && notepad.exe %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\RegQuery.txt

This will open a Notepad window with some lines of text, can you copy and paste all of the contents into your next post please

I opened run command and pasted the query you sent it tries to open the notepad and it closes that is something flickers and it closes.
Can you please let me know as to how do i go to regedit and find what exactly you are looking for?I know how to open regedit.

Okay, I don't know why that script didn't work for you but it's great that you are familiar with regedit.

Open up regedit and navigate to here:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Colors

Is there a key called "Background"? If so, double click it and change it's value to:

0 0 0

Then reboot

Hi Mahesh,

It's not a problem, I understand that people will have other time commitments.

Darn, thought I had it then.

There are three ways to take photos of your screen before Windows has booted.

1) By recording your computer video output and taking a snapshot of that video (HDMI, VGA cables etc.)

2) By setting up a virtual machine (a program that allows you to install Windows inside Windows) and just taking a screenshot.

3) With a digital camera

Option 3 is by far the easiest and it would be very helpful if you could take a photo of your problem and attach it with your next post. In the mean time, I will dig further. I'll have a big look around control panel.

Luckily i was able to upload the files as i zipped it and sent it.I have zipped the files and sent it as attachment.

Though i was not able to actually capture the white screen but my problem is that when the screen changes from image 2 to image 3 i get a white screen.i want to change the color of that screen.I hope you can analyse my problem now.

It don't get the white screen every time but only sometimes but i am sure that i changed the color of the screen from windows settings without using the registry
I hope you can help me now.

Thanks for the photos, they were very helpful.

How often do you get these white screens?

Can you do the following and see if you are still getting the white screens?

Boot Into Safe Mode

1. Save any work and close all open windows
2. Press Alt+F4
3. Select Restart in the drop down menu and press ok
4. When your computer has shutdown and is just starting to boot again (on the BIOS screen that usually has the manufacturer’s logo on it) press F8
5. Using the arrow keys, select Safe Mode and press enter


Do you have a Windows 7 installation DVD?

And one last thing, can you do the following for me please:
Please make sure you do this in normal mode - ie not in safe mode.

OTL

Download OTL to your desktop.
Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed to let it run uninterrupted.
When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
Under the Extra Registry box change it to All.
Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.

Okay, once I see the OTL log, I will decide whether to do a repair install or not. I'm pretty sure that would fix your problem Plus it allows you to keep all of your files, programs and settings. But the OTL log may reveal something easier

i need one clarification.

If i change the settings like

will i be able to lo login into windows again or will it be a problem?Will it change any windows registry settings and will i be able to restore it to the original windows settings?will the windows load again.
