How to do PC to PC lan cable Netwoking??

Dear My expert Bros,
I want share (file & Drive) my Desktop & Laptop to each other with only a cable connection.

How to do it pls tell me.

oh! other thing, is it possible to lan cabling between Win 7 & Win XP or any problem to do it?

You need to buy a "Crossover" LAN cable. Should be able to get one anywhere you can get a normal LAN cable but they will take some digging to find since 99% of the cables at any one location will be "normal" then they may have one "Crossover" on the shelf somewhere... (You can also sometimes find a crossover adapter which would work with a normal cable)

P.s. I should mention that by doing this you will have to manually set up both machines for static IP on the same subnet. Since both your computer and laptop are almost certainly guaranteed to "DHCP" to get their addresses normally, when you hook them together they will not have anywhere to get their addresses from. So you will have to set them up manually to be on the same network...

Ok lets see...

I'm going to assume that the two computers are already on the same workgroup or homegroup or whatever...

To set the adapters. Go to each machine and do the following:
Go to Control Panel-> Network and Internet -> Network connections.
Then right click on the appropriate adapter (Will probably be named "Local Adapter") and click Properties
Make sure "File and Printer SHaring for Microsoft Networks" is checked.
Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click Properties.
Click "Use the following IP address and fill in:
IP Address: 192.168.0.10 (first machine) or 192.168.0.11 (Second machine)
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: (Leave blank? or fill in with 192.168.0.1, it probably doesn't matter, not going to aces the internet this way))
Click OK then OK again...

Not sure if you'll have to reboot afterwards. I am not actually testing this as I write. That'll put both machines on the same subnet with file sharing enabled and if they are both on the same homegroup or workgroup they should then be able to see each other. Of course you have to also share folders you want ot copy/transfer files to/from between the machines... (Right click folder->Share with->Everyone). Oh and if you still can't see the shared folder from the other mahcine, turn on the guest account on the machine that is doing the sharing...

There are of course a lot of little ways this could go wrong and I can't go into details on all of them unless I manage to duplicate your setup unfortuantely. But this should be the bulk of it.
