Huh.
I'm always surprised at how much effort people put into mocking other people online, injecting sarcasm, put downs, and the like. It's true than many people do not avail themselves of the many resources that exist online to find answers, or that they simply do not spend enough time on any given search and redirect their efforts to a forum, but that's sort of the point of a forum. Kind of an inductive vs. deductive situation, there's always someone who thinks their way is qualitatively
better.
Anyways, I found this thread because the showdesktop button is annoying me. Don't get me wrong, i love the idea, and for most situations it works like a charm. Also, for those of you with dual monitor setups...i know for a fact that 7's show-desktop button has a wall to the right of it, so if you swing your mouse over to that corner, as long as you don't swing it
above the button, the pointer will get caught there and still provides VERY EASY use of the showdesktop function.
edit; i actually might be wrong about this...i use a monitor and a projector, with the projector as an extended desktop...but my monitor is @ 1920x1200 and my projector is @ something lower...so it might just be that if i come at my button from anywhere in the space
under where my second screen starts...then it catches. Ya, they definately need to add some options.
What I'm having a problem with is things like rainmeter, rainmeter's vista rainbar, objectdock by stardock, rocketdock, and I'm sure many other "desktop" utilities that sort of float around either on your desktop or on top of it. The problem is, these things are supposed to function like part of your desktop, and they have options like 'always on top' and so on...but when you use windows 7's button, they clear away these utilities too.
Now it may be that the blame for this problem lies with the programmers of these respective utilities themselves, or the 7 button, I'm not really sure, since I don't program, but it seems like these programs availed themselves of built in scenarios to make them function like parts of a desktop...so I'm inclined to think that the fault is with the programming of the button. There really should be options that you can choose, either getting rid of it, or expanding on its functionality.
In an effort to solve my problem, I'm going to try to use this guy CeIIular's utitlity, named....
Show Desktop...(hehe) I had used it in the past on XP, since the idea for the button really is genius, but for him it is still a work in progress, and he just recently(as of yesterday i believe) added an aero peek function to it

What I am hoping is that his button will sit ontop of Window's button, and override it, therefor solving my annoying issue, since he has options built into his utility which will prevent the showing of ALL the desktop.
I know this doesnt help the person who created this thread...but perhaps it might be helpful to others...part of the forum experience I'd say.
Ciao
