Welcome to SevenForums. May I ask why you need to update the bios? If you've never done this you should just be aware there is some risk and if not performed properly you can "brick" your computer.
Quick check of Compaq's support site for this model doesn't show support for W7 only Vista.

BIOS updates are in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" category. Many are only issued for specific problems and if the fix does not apply to your PC "you don't need it".
And, as noted, a failed/corrupted BIOS and on most PC's the ONLY recourse is to replace the motherboard.
