iastor.sys related BSOD

Look on the HP Support Downloads webpage for your model for a newer BIOS. If there is one then run it from Windows taking all precautions given. If not proceed with reset and other steps.

Updates BIOS.

Still getting BSOD.

Getting ready to do that now. I've been thinking of upgrading to 7 Pro. Can I do a clean install of that over my current version the same way as a clean install?

I hope this takes care of the issue. LOL.

Thank you for your help and patience. I know I'm not the most technically savvy. Thanks.

Yes you can, but I'd use the clean command from the link Greg provided first. You'll probably have to do it from the install disk though. On the first screen where you select your language, don't select it, hold down the Shift key and press F10, you'll get a command prompt.

I'm going to purchase a key tonight and download. I just didn't know if it would be worth it or not. I like the idea of running apps in XP mode, though.

Best way to proceed is the re-install, as Greg mentioned.

I'm reading the clean install tutorial and it tells me to have the RAID drivers on a usb key drive. Can I extract these from my C: drive? I can't seem to find them online.

You only need that if you are running raid. If you're not, just have the motherboard drivers from the manufacturer's web site ready to install after Windows is installed.

My C: drive is a 750 GB tied via RAID to a SSD...I believe that's the setup. But last time I tried a clean install it could not find a drive to install it on. When I read the tutorial it said I would need RAID drivers to find the drive in order to install.

Going to wipe the drive and just want to maximize my success with this.

Thanks for your time.

Then it should be the one usually listed a floppy raid driver or something to that effect.

OK. I'm trying a clean install doing everything the tutorial told me to. I went to the folder on the drive with my drivers and it said it cannot find signed drivers. I am going to wipe but how will I be able to do the clean install if the software is not finding the drivers for the C: drive? Just trying to understand this.

Thanks for your time

What folder on what drive are you referring to, and how does this relate to the steps given in tutorial on how to handle drivers - which are quite specific?

Days ago I told you that your Disk Mgmt shows you do not have RAID:

Are you trying to RAID the drives now? I would not do this unless you have a specific need for RAID which Win7 does not like and causes many problems with install.

The RAID control panel you show does not seem to show it in a RAID now, only a separate 30gb cache drive which is fine to keep enabled.

If you've not done anything since screenshot was made then it does not appear you have RAID since the second drive is shown separately as Data I.

No I'm trying to RAID. I was just showing you what was in my "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" control center. It made me think I had RAID.

I am not sure how to disable it, nor am I sure how to set AHCI. I've googled it and am out of ideas on how to do this.

I know this is trying and I apologize. Thank you for your time and patience.

Jim

No prob. Both screenshots don't show that it is RAID'ed.

The Intel Control Panel shows a hidden 30gb cache partition that is fine to keep as it is. I would read about this in the Manual on the HP Support Downloads page for your model.

I don't think you need to change anything as long as it's set the same as when you made the Disk Mgmt screenshot. But I would unplug the data drive if possible to do the reinstall so there's no chance it interferes.
