Image Viewer with good UI ?

I'm looking for an alternative to the stock windows image viewer that has a good UI, the only one I found was Picasa but it doesn't have many features and I can't open more than one picture at the same time.

I have also tried nexus image but its similar to picasa.

People speak highly of IrfanView. I myself don't use it but it's good from what I read, and it's free.

Instead, I'm still using ACDSee in one of its early incarnations (v4 on one machine because it's super-fast and super-lean and does exactly what I need and want in an image browser, and v5 on all other machines because of it's slightly prettier look and just about the same performance).

The current ACDSee PRO is a "BLOATED BEAST" and has far more in it than anybody could conceivably want or need. Plus it's priced too high. The earlier v4/v5 editions of ACDSee were very modestly and reasonably priced. Yes, I own it too (for its "professional image browsing and light-table features")... but never use it.

If only the company still sold these older smaller leaner faster legacy versions if you wanted one. Or, maybe they should just open up these old legacy versions a "free" (I know I'd have no problem sharing it with anybody who'd want it).

I have NEVER used MS's image viewers (Photo Viewer) or Explorer's interface to pictures. I've used ACDSee v4/v5 for the past 17 years, as do all the friends and family I can influence.

I would try Irfanview, very good for such a small file size and great plugins too. Has a really good slideshow feature. But if you want to pay I agree with dsperber, ACDsee is a very good program it can do a lot.

try zoner, there is a free version also.

The free version of Zoner offers a black and dark gray "skin" with no options to change. Also, the program checks for updates, again, with no option to disable. But it's the only program I've found that I can "tag" pictures and the data stays with the pictures.

I use XNView for image viewing. It uses tabs for separate opened images. It functions like explorer, with thumbnails or file details and tree directory in the left panel. It can also access other media programs to play associated media files.

Unlike explorer, only the left panel shines in white light.

utterly ridiculous logic in my opinion.

The program performance is excellent. The best free-ware solution available.

FastStone Image Viewer is my recommend. For me , that have best UI, a lot of tools and much other.

+1, as I said originally.

The current ACDSee Pro 5 product is only $56, which is hardly outrageous.

There is also a free trial, so you can see for yourself.

It has terrific camera-friendly features as well, showing all/selected the EXIF data very nicely, etc.

The current Pro version does NOT look like Win98. It has the sleek Win7-Aero-look (conforming to your Win7 color theme) dark skin, kind of like the way Photoshop CS6 now also has that dark skin.

ACDSee's "photo editing" capabilities are the "bloat" that I don't care about, but they're certainly useful if you want to use them. I only use ACDSee (old v4/v5 from the early 2000's) for image viewing. And I occasionally use the latest ACDSee Pro 5 when I'm dealing with images from digital cameras.

I use FastStone since many years and can really recommend it. Nice UI and a lot of useful functions.

I have also heard good things about Ifranview but have never used it myself.

no one said anything against its performance, it just doesn't have a good looking UI.
